that dude ran down everything remotely close to him last week when we played them,
i’ll take his D over hinske any day. though hinske in RF looks surprisingly not like Johnny Gomes…

Per the Star Tribune this morning.
The Mariners have a few more hours to work a deal with whatever team did win the claim, so we should know soon. The Rays are definitely interested, but the Red Sox might have put in a claim to block that move.

FWIW using Graham's new site
Name wOBA RV/PA bRAA RV600
Ibanez .360 .025 13.1 15
Hinske .364 .029 9.7 17.4
B. Giles .376 .039 18.7 23.4
The farther a player is from 600 AB’s the larger variance between bRAA and RV600. So basically Ibanez (who bats LH btw) is a duplication of Hinske. Do we really need another redundancy on this bench? Not to mention that he won’t be free.
For what its worth (pun definitely intended)
Jayson Werth .373 .037 11.4 22.2

Splits
Ibanez:
.825 OPS against righties
.923 OPS against lefties
I realize it’s a pretty massive reverse split, but historically he’s never had trouble hitting lefties.
In any case, there’s a big difference for THIS team.

In that he can field a position, run, and play everyday
but what about the veteran presence ::whine whine whine::
Seriously though, his numbers are 3.55 .021 3.8 12.6
so he compares close. But since he is actually a ballplayer and not just a stick then sure I can agree with that. Seems silly to dump him at this point after holding on for so long and he looks as healthy as he is going to be.

Hflynn....
Although Mariners outfielder Raul Ibanez has reportedly been claimed on revocable waivers, it’s likely that Seattle has decided to keep Ibanez, reports ESPN’s Buster Olney.
One source indicated Thursday morning that the Tigers have claimed Ibanez, while others say the Twins have claimed him. The latter scenario seemingly makes more sense because the Twins need a hitter, in the aftermath of the injury to Michael Cuddyer.
According to the Seattle Times, the Rays appear to be have the greatest interest in Ibanez since Carl Crawford is likely out for the season, but team’s like the Red Sox may very well “block” any deal the Rays try to accomplish.

With Lowell on DL, Sox could look for help
The Boston Red Sox placed third baseman Mike Lowell on the disabled list on Wednesday and will have first baseman Kevin Youkilis move over to third with Sean Casey replacing Youkilis at first. However, the Sox might want some more protection and could look to make a waiver deal for a corner infielder, the Boston Globe reports.
Some of the names floating around are San Francisco Giants infield Rich Aurilia and Houston Astros’ Mark Loretta.
Boston could also be interested in Gary Sheffield who was placed on waiver by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. Sheffield has made it clear in the past that he would like to play for the Red Sox.

plan ahead
Basically, assume someone could get hurt. Identify which players you could not live without. In this case, if the offense is already not high powered, it makes sense to grab someone who can help. That way, even if you don’t lose someone to injuries, you have a boost or break even, and if you do lose a hitter, you’re not SOL.

Slight disagreement with your description
He wasn’t running back to first, he was jogging back to first.
Laying aside the brain cramp (which may or may not be chronic), please explain again why it just looks like he’s loafing on every play, when in fact he’s actually giving 110% on every play.
