Huff Clears Waivers
The Orioles are now free to trade him to any team. I doubt the Rays are a likely destination, but you never know.

Prick will probably end up with Boston and destroy us down the stretch

get him first get him first!
I’d rather see Aubrey with Tampa than with Boston. I’m pretty sure the O’s are willing to pay half his contract to whoever trades for him, if they get a reasonable haul of prospects.
they have waiver position

it doesn't matter
Aubrey cleared waivers. No-one claimed him, because no-one wanted to risk taking his huge contract. Thus the Orioles could trade him to the Angels for a can of beans and the Red Sox couldn’t do a thing about it. The Warehouse has until midnight August 31st to trade him before he becomes untradeable again. But the Red Sox have no advantage over the Rays in trading for him.
$8M for a .900+ OPS is hardly a huge contract
Jarrod Washburn will be making $10M next year for the M’s to be a serviceable #5.
For reference, this will be the cost of our starting 5 next year if nothing changes:
Kazmir – $6,000,000
Shields – $ 1,500,000
Garza – $500,000 ($390,000 this year, lets assume a modest increase)
Sonny – $500,000 (Same as Garza)
Jackson – $500,000 (Arb1 lets assume modest increase)
Total – $9,000,000
That is assuming they give Garza and Sonny raises which they don’t have to do and that Jackson doesn’t go crazy in Arb.
$9M for our entire rotation. If you want to say, “Well what about Price?” He will make $1M plus bonus pro-ration next year.

Your'e right of course
But, while it’s reasonable to expect Huff to be this good for the rest of the season, come 2009 it’s a question of which Huff shows up… the 2008 or the 2007 version. It’ll be pretty amazing if Huff magically resurges into an upper tier hitter, and many teams may not want to bet $8M on that happening.
Thanks for correcting me Geek
I didn’t take the time to read that right.

Orioles fan here....
Please, please take Huff off our hands and use him to beat the crap out of the Yankee Sox.
"Whether your name is Gehrig or Ripken, DiMaggio or Robinson, or that of some youngster who picks up his bat or puts on his glove, you are challenged by the game of baseball to do your very best day in and day out. That's all I've ever tried to do."
Seconded
Most of us O’s fans have become Rays fans this season. I picked the Rays to go all the way before the season started and I’m sticking by that prediction. Huff would help you get there – check out where he ranks in the AL. Sportsline.com has him as the #1 DH in baseball.
thanks for rooting for us O's fans
but what would the O’s want for huff? they need a shortstop of the future and unless they think zobrist is that for the O’s, because brignac is not up for trade and is out for the year with a broken wrist anyways, the rays would be willing to give the O’s jeff niemann though, but im not sure that would be enough for them to get a deal done
Longo=ROY. Friedman=Executive of the year. Maddon=Manager of the year. BJ UPTON IS NOT LAZY! ! ! Gabe Gross= clutch. David Price is the next big time pitcher.
