Maddon article on Yahoo
Article about Madden from Yahoo. I hope you guys enjoy.
Some quotes from the article
“I’m not backing off on this one because I’m going to get fined on that, so screw ‘em. But I’m telling you, that’s the kind of call that can cost you a pennant right there.”
“It’s much easier to watch on the field than on TV,” said Maddon, who after being ejected in the sixth inning joined baseball’s living Buddha, Don Zimmer, in the back of the Rays’ clubhouse.
This was the Rays’ 35th come-from-behind victory and the eighth in games they’ve trailed after seven innings.
Maddon introduced a slogan for that in spring training: 9=8. Play nine innings a night, every night, and you wind up being one of the eight teams playing in October.

What am I voting on?
Mad Dog has done a lot this year you should be more specific.
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

dude, obviously "what maddon did" refers to the article, and the article obviously revolves around defending BJ the other night...

"He (Upton) has to understand that I was there for him," Maddon said. "Believe me, as a group, we’re working together on this one, and we’re going to make it right."
The nightmarishly surreal sequence of events surrounding Upton (some his responsibility and some not, such as last night – I think we can all agree) would be enough to get inside the head of some veterans players, I would think. So last night’s call provided the perfectly timed and justified opportunity for Maddon to show the team, and Upton in particular, that if there was any doubt, he will go to the wall in defense of the team and each and every player.
Maybe I’m reading too much into it.

Not at all
I think that’s absolutely true, and they couldn’t have scripted a better way to close the door on this Upton chapter. Even Deumeg has to admit that it was hustle and a bad call here.

Good Article
I like that Maddon reiterated that he is there for Upton. It definately gives the whole team a boost and goes miles further than a locker room speech. I also like how the crowd started chanting BJ when he came up in the 8th. I think I truly believe (this time) that we will see a different Upton the rest of the season.
Let’s fill the Pit with scumbags tonight!!! I’ll be one of those scumbags.

i'd be much happier with a different attitude towards Upton by fans and radio hacks than a different Upton
but hustling 100% of the time is a good thing, too

Absolutely
I got to talk to JP Peterson on 1010 this afternoon right before his show. I said the entire media is being unfair to Upton and sighted some stats about Upton vs Longo that he had no idea about. The media has created controversy to keep listeners and newspapers flying off the shelves it’s about time that shit stops. All it will do is drive a wedge between the city and Upton. I think I am actually going to go buy an Upton Jersey because of it. Upton is young he is going to make some mental mistakes and we will get frustrated by them. They are people and some of the stuff being said is uncalled for. Yes they are professionals but they are not perfect. In a season where we should be enjoying the ride. The media has created this shit storm distraction. But on positive about it is… no one in the media is talking about the record putting more pressure on them. In many ways them focusing on BJ short term might be good but the results will be disastrous in the long run.

I was actually thinking this the other day. All this BS drama about Upton could be a unifying theme in the dugout. They aren’t getting all the press the team deserves, so it could work as a perceived “slight” that so many athletes thrive on.
