Replay coming Friday to Trop
Instant replay will be used for games at Tropicana Field starting Friday under a plan MLB is expected to make official this afternoon.
Commisioner Bud Selig is scheduled to announce at 5 p.m. that replay will be used for series starting Thursday and Friday. The Rays open a weekend series against the Orioles on Friday.
Also, Tim Beckham promoted to HV.

There is no way reviewing a home run call takes longer than having a manager come out and scream at the umps

This will be used liberally, and that's a problem.
And they’ll figure out a way to try to see if a ball hit off a catwalk. And that’s a bigger problem.

2 things
1. Will not the possibility of replay lead managers to dispute MORE home run calls? It appears the only hard and fast rule will be that managers are not allowed to argue after the replay has been used. But if I were a manager, I’d always be willing to do my best to make sure that replay is used as often is possible…can’t hurt your chances to try, right?
2. I agree that the catwalks will make the Trop the most common stadium in which calls are disputed.

Really, the only thing we can do is sit back and watch.
MLB may lack foresight at times, but they’re not dumb. If (or when, and I’m leaning towards when) MLB sees that this is extending games by even 15 or 20 minutes they’ll pull the plug on it for everyday use in a heartbeat.
I expect to remain (and possibly even expand in use) for playoff games, because when you get that far in, getting calls right becomes a massive premium and adding a quarter of an hour to a game that’s already 30-45 minutes longer due to being on a national stage isn’t that big of a deal.
One of the loudest complaints about baseball in general is that the games take too long. A 3 hour game is OK for football once a week, but daily for baseball can be a pain in the ass, and that’s why this will ultimately fail. It’ll probably last throughout the rest of the season and the playoffs, but it’ll be gone after next year once they realize that even if they work out all the kinks, that managers are going to abuse replay by having it give them enough time to warm up a bullpen arm while the umps review, or to ice a hot pitcher, or when it gets used incorrectly (which it will), or when even on a replay, the manager continues to argue a call.
