Arionza Fall League roster finalized
Stacy Long gave us 5 players earlier, and today the last two were reported:
RHRP Ryan Reid(woo!)
LHSP James Houser(makes sense to make up for time lost due to injury/suspension)
RHP Chris Mason
LHP Mike Wlodarczyk
C Matt Spring(for familiarity?)
1B Rhyne Hughes
OF J.T. Hall

I think the picks this year are crap.
No offense to the players going. Congratulations on the opportunity. But, none of these guys are really top prospects. Where is Hell-boy? Davis?
Reid is a decent choice don’t get me wrong as well as Houser. Other then that what? Mason has been terrible, sorry Chris. Wlodarczk took a HUGE step back this year. Mat Spring has improved but still is not worthy to be in Arizona. Hughes is a solid guy but a not a prospect in anyway, shape or form. J.T. Hall? Why don’t the Rays just Gabby Martinez, Pedroza, and Niel Walton.
Last time I checked the AFL is for showcasing top prospects in the organization. Does anyone feel that these guys are top prospects?

How many teams are sending their top pitching prospects?
My guess: Not many, if any. One, teams keep a close eye on their innings. Two, they probably don’t want their pitchers in the hands of coaches outside the organization.

It's rare
that good pitching is sent over. Also, the parks are just brutal on pitching anyway, so you probably have more to lose than to gain by sending pitchers out there, other than to showcase them as trade bait.
Weak group though.

Houser didn't get suspended.
We found a loophole. You add him to the 40 man and you’re no longer subjected to minor league suspension rules, at least until you’re taken off. .

You're right
for some reason I remembered that but just thought the suspension was made shorter and that he still missed like 2-3 starts at the beginning of the year.

You're both right
He was suspended (by MiLB), but missed no time due to the Rays adding him to the 40-man(MLB). Did not miss time for the suspension, but was suspended.

Just to totally clear this up
I believe he DID miss time in the 2007 season, but still had like 23 more days to serve in 2008. But he avoided them due to the loophole. So: Time was missed, but not this year.

He was suspended in late August, per the Heater

Pitching prospect Houser suspended
LHP James Houser, a Sarasota native who was the Rays’ second-round pick in 2003, was suspended 50 games on Saturday for "testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance,’’ according to MLB.
Not much time was missed.
