No word on the "Rocco Watch 2008"

I read today
that he will be activated by Tuesday.
The guy that is on the mound for the Tigers...
He is pretty good. This should be fun.

Reliever Troy Percival swore he would roll a volleyball with “Wilson” written on it onto the field during Baldelli’s first at-bat, a reference to Tom Hanks’ look in Castaway.Someone said Baldelli used to look like Jesus, but was now more of an Abraham Lincoln. A few braids, someone else interjected, and he could be Jack Sparrow.
He better not shave it.
Dude, no way.
People lose their powers when they shave great beards. Look at Jesus, Chuck Norris, Chewbacca, ect.

I've called you a tool I think, I didn't get banned...
Of course, I’ve got a high sv. vs. ban-hammer since I actually contribute.
man gotta love the trop
Garza, Shields and Kazmir all have ERA’s in the very low 2’s with 1 loss each at home
Jackson is actually worse at home, Sonny is about the same.
Yep, starting this Thursday in Seattle.

oh
well it didn’t happen but I was gonna be surprised if I woke up and saw we called up Price. Although, it wouldn’t make sense until he is rested.
He could be up as a reliever.
That would be something.

Maddon compared him to Lackey
Who was a starter in the minors and majors, but that could be simply due to the starter relation.
by R.J. Anderson on Aug 3, 2008 1:56 PM EDT up reply actions
I have trouble seeing him called up as a starter...
Unless EJ or SOnny shit the bed, I expect him to be called up as a reliever.
Well if Price pitches like he did yesterday on the 7th
then I can actually see him starting here on the 12th. Who do we face?
I'm starting to turn around on him going to the pen
"I'm like a retarded Adam Dunn mixed with Jason Bartlett" - R.J. Anderson
it wouldn't be the dumbest idea
but I think Sonny(who usually pitches the first few innings very well) would be a GREAT RP and Price can take his spot.
Shields is good at pitching

Predictions
Who do you think is our 2009 starting 5 out of spring? It is easy to say Kazmir, Shields, Garza, Price, Davis but I am gonna guess….
Kazmir
Shields
Garza
Price
Jackson
As we continue to take it very slow with Davis and give him like another 2 months in AAA next season.
very possible also
Davis and Hellickson will probably be in AAA but Davis would def be the first one up. Niemann in the bullpen i fucking hope
Sonny should be ahead of Jackson at this point
Especially considering service time and all, he’s the one to hang on to.
Niemann is losing value by the day but is still someone I’d love to keep at starter in case of injury. Rays have been extremely lucky and that’s why it seems that Niemann is being misused.

they started at 150:1.
Seattle and Washington are both currently 2500:1

As much as I love Jonny Gomes, he will be the one DFA'd when Rocco gets called up....
And with his paltry .188/8/19 I would bet we could resign him to AAA because who would want him? We could then call him up Sept. 1st and he could be head cheerleader. Just a guess…....
Please don't use BA or RBI

Rockies should take him
he would be like a .210 hitter with 40 homers there. Adam Dunn minus the walks !
He has an option left apparently, so no DFA needed.
by R.J. Anderson on Aug 3, 2008 2:34 PM EDT up reply actions
When he gets to AAA
He’ll hit for .600 with 80HR and 300RBI in 100AB. The guy has always slaughtered AAA pitching.
Definitely.
Then we’ll all be clamoring for his return and then sunshine and lollipops will occur.

so whats the plan anyway?
Rocco plays the field like twice a week and DH the rest? Or is he just gonna DH?
Gomes should be on this team, shitty year and all, but they can only have 25
If he does accept Durham, he will def be called up in Sept
He doesn't, only 2.??? of service time.

I just don't think Gomes is that kind of guy.
At worst, he’ll asked to be released at the end of the season.
Just checking up on future promotions

I guess not. You can throw Aybar, Cliff Floyd, Hammel, Miller, Reyes in that group too.

"I'm like a retarded Adam Dunn mixed with Jason Bartlett" - R.J. Anderson
wasn't bad
I’m surprised he’s coming out with a new album so I guess that’s why he’s doing concerts. But the problem with all these summer concert series performers is, how many songs by LL Cool J do you actually know?
You could tell he was holding himself back from getting real freaky
He brought a whole bunch of girls on stage, but then brought kids up too and said it was a family affair. I was a little shocked at where he might be going with it, but it was pretty PG rated
MC Hammer was a joke, and honestly LL does nothing for me.
The rap performers were pretty lame overall.

I really don't see the obsession with Brignac
Is he really that good? Was he really so unprepared at the start of the season that we had to trade for Barty? Is he really good enough to replace Barty next year as the starting SS?

ooga chaka ooga chaka ooga chaka
I’mmmm hooked on a feeling
I’m high on believing
That you’re in love with meeeeeeeeeeee
Last year was my first year going
I had a blast and didn’t even go to UF or UGA. Tickets were easy to get since half the people are too wasted to go to the game
last year he tried
but it’s hard to win a game single handedly, especially when his O-line basically quit in the second half
they were probably all out late last night
just like in the Marlins series when you could tell some of them were playing with serious hangovers on Sunday afternoon
fucking Gallaraga
at least hes throwing a bit
Also, after not knowing Price’s first name, they just called him “Matt Greinke”
Gallaraga is at 72
We need to make him work hard in the 6th so we can get a couple innings against their bullpen
Shields just getting started?
Good inning so far.
he is at 99 pitches though
maybe Maddon gives him 1 or 2 more batters but that is probably it, unless he works very quick, he isn’t getting another inning.
He is absoultely shreading the Rays right now.
If the Rays lose and he pitches a complete game, hats off to him. His stuff is nasty today.
STOP WITH THE FIRST PITCH SWINGING
he is gonna cruise to a complete game if we don’t make him work. He might not even get to 80 here….
Perhaps if we got a hit once in awhile Gallaraga would have a higher pitch count
We are working the counts pretty well this game, but nobody is getting on base. You can have 5 or 6 P/PA, but if no one gets on base then it just means squat.
no he isn't
He is a solid pitcher and when a pitcher throws strikes our offense is horrible.
Small sample size but I wasn't saying that he isn't good. He is a good pitcher
But this clearly isn’t the game of his life. When the Rays face a good pitcher that can throw strikes we are going to look horrible. We just don’t swing the bats well. We rely quite a bit on walks and stolen bases to get runs. If the guy isn’t giving up walks we just won’t have many base runners.
You've got to take off the homer glasses for a second.
Sometimes, the opponent just beats you. Gallaraga is really pitching a good game. Regardless of whether or not one thinks the Rays offense is slumping or the bats are asleep, Gallaraga is pitching so well that it doesn’t look like any team in the league could mount an offensive outburst against him today.
It is a seasonwide problem
We just do not swing the bats well. And Gallaraga is pitching very well, but other teams may have 4 hits and 1 run at this point instead of 0 and 1. I’m not saying other teams would be rocking him.
I agree with you that the Rays have not been swinging the bats well
But I just don’t understand how one can complain about the offense today. It really wouldn’t matter much if they were swinging the bats well, chances are the Rays would still be losing this game.
And it’s not like they’re out of it yet, they’re down two runs and if they can get him out of the game or wear him down they can get some runs on the board.
Our offense has trouble against good pitchers?

by R.J. Anderson on Aug 3, 2008 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions
You are bald?
And yes, we have a lot of trouble vs good pitchers that throw strikes. Far more than most teams. Surely you must know that.
As in prove we struggle against better pitchers more than other teams.
by R.J. Anderson on Aug 3, 2008 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions
Sure
We are 19th in BA, and 18th in slugging
Both are obviously below average…that wasn’t very hard
Just to further prove my point
We are 12th in OBP
So clearly we are making our improvements league wide against pitchers that are not throwing strikes. So when we face pitchers that throw strikes we simply struggle compared to other squads.
I'd disagree on that point.
SLG/OBP mean more to me offensively than runs scored.
by R.J. Anderson on Aug 3, 2008 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions
I understand what you mean about SLG/OBP
The rays should be scoring more runs, but they’re not, and they’ve been below the watermark all season in scoring runs. The 2004 team had a much better offense then this.
You act as if being above average at OBP is bad.
by R.J. Anderson on Aug 3, 2008 3:32 PM EDT up reply actions
What? You asked me to prove it
And I did. When did I say OBP is bad? Just that in this scenario BA essentially equals OBP since walks are eliminated. Therefore, our poor BA is emphasized.
I asked you to prove that we struggle
AGAINST GOOD PITCHERS more so than others.
by R.J. Anderson on Aug 3, 2008 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions
I said good pitchers that throw strikes...

I did read the post.
Halladay is one of the best and we’ve owned him.
by R.J. Anderson on Aug 3, 2008 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions
i wouldn't call it owning
there are other pitchers than just halladay and it isn’t like we’ve rocked him. we were one pebble in the clay from not having our only big inning vs him
Stop using BA btw
OBP/SLG tells you everything BA does and more.
by R.J. Anderson on Aug 3, 2008 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions
That's probably a bit of an overstatement
But he looks like he’s not going to be beat. The Rays should seriously consider forgetting about trying to score runs in the 7th and try to just get him out of the game by making him throw tons of pitches.
with the way he is pitching
Thank god we took the first 2 and 4 straight because unless we really make him work next inning, this looks bad
alright
let Shields pitch this inning and then lets score.
Shields has done well enough for a W although the hits are kinda high
He is on a mission to make the Twins look like idiots
but they sure as hell need him after trading Santana AND Garza away
They were idiots for keeping Livan up over him.
by R.J. Anderson on Aug 3, 2008 3:28 PM EDT up reply actions
other than Livan, the staff has been young and good
imagine they kept Garza(thank god they didn’t)
Garza, Liriano, Baker, Slowely, Blackburn
hell could have been Santana, Garza, Liriano, Baker and Slowely
Imo One Hitter = Game Of Your Life
unless you have thrown a no-hitter in MLB, dude is one hit away from a perfect game, I hope I just jinxed it for him but I think that only applies to your own team.
can they bring zumaya in to throw it right by inge?
pretty please
Hopefully the Rays can get to him now
He hasn’t had to pitch under pressure this game. Let’s find a chink in the armor!
We need to get another guy on base
Start making Gallaraga work this innning, get that crummy bullpen going.
A walk or an infield single would be cool
I wouldn’t compain one bit about not scoring a run but making Gallaraga work a little more.

No way
I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see both Riggans and Barty on the DL. Riggans’ pec is gonna be sore as hell and Barty’s fingernail looked sick.

Who gets the win Percy or Miller?
Secondly Barty goes down because Percy cant hold his water and Riggans gets cracked in the chest. That whole situaton can be attributable to Percy too. WTF are we going to do at SS for the next week. I say week only if Barty’s finger isn’t fuggin broken.
You know, that's more snakes & Pee Wee Herman than any man needs to see in one lifetime.

hmmm, seems the Tigers announcers stopped giggling
but the only shitty part is I expect to see Zobrist at SS the next 2 weeks or so
I'm pretty sure Friedman took his stand on our SS of the future
now Maddon needs to follow suit and play him and not keep his ass on the bench.
Anyone mind if we just drop Gomes/Aybar (Barty/Riggans DL) and bring up Ruggiano, Brignac, Jaso, and Guzman
If Barty misses time
It’s going to make me even more pissed at Percy.
