But this blog certainly has the most active posting base of any of the SBNation blogs I’ve seen, and that includes the old standbys like USS Mariner.

MVN is another network. Scout.com and rivals.com both have, at one point or another, had extremely popular message board networks (which as far as I’m concerned, isn’t too significantly different from a blog, just doesn’t have a ringleader).
There are a few well-established popular independent team blogs, but I believe that some of the ‘corporate’ blog sites have passed them.
In boxing, there are quite a few established boxing blogs that have tens of thousands of users (eastsideboxing is my personal favorite), so I’m not too surprised they had some trouble taking off.

Shields – HR’s totals need to go down for Garza but he still serves it up less than Shields

I know he stayed in the game but those first few minutes were scary and it probably was hurting even more today

That most certainly looked very very gross. I would be inclined to DL him, that’ll probably take a good 10 days to heal up completely and if he’s going to have problems gripping the ball, his throws are going to be slower and less accurate which decreases his abilities defensively.

if you only had information about a pitcher's K-rate, BB-rate, and HR-rate, FIP is what you'd guess his ERA would be
and since K-rate, BB-rate, and HR-rate are the three main things pitchers have control over with nothing else really that close, it’s a good measure of a pitcher’s actual skill.
you’ll also see xFIP thrown around, which uses GB% instead of HR-rate, because pitchers don’t have all that much control over what percentage of flyballs turn into homeruns. they just control how many flyballs are given up. GB% is a better future predictor of HR-rate than HR-rate itself. (which is another reason to be wary of Percival and Wheeler, flyball machines.)

Teixeira is a good addition for this season
but look at how many runs they’ve scored versus how many they’ve given up. they’re a 60-win team and have the same pythagorean record as the a’s.
their rotation has a good 1-2 punch with Lackey and Ervin, but Joe Saunders has been really lucky—he’s their #5 going forward. Garland and Weaver are league-average.
who scares you offensively after Tex? certainly not Garret Anderson, Chone Figgins, either shortstop, either catcher, or Gary Matthews… Vlad, Hunter, and Kendrick are above-average, but not stars.

Vlad and Torii are extremely scary when streaking, Tex is all-star, Figgins knows his role, plus they have arguably the best coach in the majors, the mentor to a certain all but locked up manager of the year this season

k-rod was better last year, Howell and Balfour would have as many saves given KRod's opportunities
“knowing your role” doesn’t make you more useful.
Scioscia might be the best manager, but shouldn’t all his players already be maxing out their production if he’s so good? the Angels do historically run the bases quite well, too, but that should already be contributing to run scoring.
last year the diamondbacks got lucky and outplayed their pythag by a ton. this year’s it’s the angels. by pythag, they are a win or two better thant he Rays so far (with a slightly tougher schedule).

It was during the mailtime segment and the message read something like “Sox, Yankees getting all the headlines. Rays still in first after sweeping the Tigers. Do you see any reason for the Rays to fade away?”
The answer was a resounding no. The Rays have earned everything they have right now. Every time the Yanks and Sox try and creep up on the Rays they answer right back. The Rays see themselves as winners and it really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Neither guy bet or “go” against ‘em.

but I like that his new one isn’t over produced, the lyrics are ok, and basically it doesn’t sound like every other rap album that is out. I’m more of a Liks fan myself. A group that doesn’t take themselves seriously and would be a fucking good time to hang out with.

We’ve seen it WAY too many times this year; managers pulling a HOT starting pitcher because of a yielded hit or two (or a pitch count!). I can tell you that every time a pitcher is cruising through a game only to be lifted prematurely, the other team breathes a big sigh of relief (if you played at any level, I know you remember that feeling. I played in an ‘over 30’ league not too long ago so the memory is still strong for me).
