I thought Gomes would start in RF all year and settle into a groove defensively and offensively. I was way off!

They should send him down for Rocco and have him get 100ABs and play RF through August. Maybe he will come back ready to hit in September. I would not completely count this guy out as he has carried this team in the past and plays with a ton of energy.

I am excited about Rocco too. Its not just a great story..he could do something special.

It seems that the Gomesinator comes to bat looking to do nothing but hit the ball out of the park. For all you seasoned baseball players who used to play the game you will have noticed Johnny coming out of his shoes and being completely off balance with every swing. This isn’t the Saturday softball league where you have a chance to kill the high arching slow pitch. This is the BIGS in which balance is very important.

Just like golf, if you have too many moving parts while trying to hit a pitch coming in at 90+ MPH it’s more than likely that good contact is not going to be made. I cannot believe his hitting coach hasn’t worked with Gomes about toning it down and making better contact. I don’t believe I can name a player in MLB that takes a more furocious rip at the ball at every plate appearance. The funny thing is when swinging out of your shoes as Gomes does you lose bat speed.

I’m for Gomes going to Durham or wherever to learn a different approach at the dish. After all, everyone knows the definition of insanity.
