They demoted GOMES for Zobrist?

Zobrist will be demoted as soon as Bartlett is ready and Rocco will be activated.

I feel bad for Whitney Johnson. He probably broke down in tears when announcing that news.

Good news!
Now I don’t have to see Aybar playing SS tonight. This seems to mean that when Barty is ready to play Zobrist will go back down and Rocco will come up.

Yeah, he's getting a raw deal.
The team should be forced to play him even though his health is a huge concern and he hasn’t faced MLB pitching in almost 2 years.

They don't have much flexibility right now
Even though CC and Bart are hurt, they arent hurt badly enough to force a DL trip meaning they don’t have too many viable options. I suppose if they wanted to get sneaky they could option Garza down between starts, but even this could come back to bite them in the ass in the future.

In all seriousness
I hope Gomes gets the regular playing time he needs in AAA so he can come back up next month, be hot into the playoffs, and serve as a valuable trade chip in the offseason.

might not be trade value
but some confidence could add to pinch-hitting value in Sept.

Gomes has this rediculous pattern
Get hot in the minors. Get called up. Stay hot for a little bit in the majors. Become a liability on defense. Lose playing time. Get freezing cold. Go back to the minors.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

I think RJ had gone over the stats earlier in the year to show that Gomes stays productive offensively with playing time in the field
Which is why I think he could get moved in the offseason if he manages to have a good showing in September. There has to be a team out there who needs offense bad enough to overlook Gomes’ defeciencies in the field and is willing to give him everyday playing time.

I've always been a fan of the hustler.
He is definitely a guy you root for regardless of results, hopefully he can get the AB’s he needs, and maybe stop swinging for the 600 footers all the time.

No, promethazine is the active ingredient in cough syrup that helps you get loose.
And along with codeine, are the main ingredients in sizzurp.

Yes
If you have options in a given year, there is no limit on how many times that option can be exercised. Its not based on the # of times sent down

At the same time if he’s been optioned before this year, its game on. I think its his last year…I know its Gomes’

Im pretty sure I brought this up 2 nights ago when Barty first went down
can I call late on the FO?
Good move though, sucks for Zo because he will only be here a couple days and than Rocco will get activated (when Barty is ready) but having Aybar at SS just sucks. One thing I doubt they will do but I wouldnt mind is seeing them just cut Aybar and keep Zobrist up. Aybar may or may not clear waivers.
by Dbullsfan on Aug 5, 2008 3:42 PM EDT 0 recs
So you all think they have Ben play today and then demote him for Rocco tomorrow (to face the lefty)?
by matthan on Aug 5, 2008 3:51 PM EDT 0 recs
No
Bartlett will miss the whole series. Aybar can’t handle the position and Longoria doesn’t want to (I wasn’t too thrilled with his comments…He might be awesome but he’s still a rookie).

3B and SS are two way different positions.
CC is far from a rookie, and he bitches about shifting 27 feet to his left.

I would say if anything
It’s the rookie who should ‘shut up and play’ so to speak. Not that I approve of CC’s handling of his situation either.

The right move
would be to DFA Floyd for Rocco and keep Zobrist up.
He’s almost certainly going to have to be on the playoff roster anyway.

Or that they were going to send Gomes down for Rocco
This puts the better team on the field today.

That’s why the Brewers traded him for cheap. They were about to have to DFA him anyway.
