Around SBN: Phil Mickelson Outshines Tiger Woods

Recap

Let's be honest: it would be pretty easy to vituperate tonight's performances by the starting pitchers, but neither you nor I really care to relive that hell. Instead I want to revisit my thoughts during Evan's plate appearance in the 7th.

First Pitch: Evan is generally good. This at-bat has the possibility for good developments. I look forward to this.
Second Pitch: I wonder how much a giant animatronic mouse would cost?
Third Pitch: Oh. My. God.
Fourth Pitch: I would place it in my back yard and have it nibble on delicious metal shaped like cheese.
Fifth Pitch: GAAAAAAAAAH.
Sixth Pitch: Perhaps call it Mista Whiskas?
Seventh Pitch: YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES!

Also, what in the world was going on when he came up with Rihanna blaring in the first? My man crush died a little bit at that point.

Rihanna's music is a by product of her existence.

Her existence means I get to look at pictures of her.

The music isn’t a bad trade-off

Rihanna's music is a violation of the Geneva Convention

I don’t care what she looks like, she makes me want to jab icepicks into my ears.

Great game

I am much less pleased that they decided to give out thundersticks to the kids at tomorrows game. That’s going to get old very quickly.

I'm taking 50 kids to the game with an after-school program

Thundersticks will not end well for me.

What section will you be in

I have a bunch of kids giveaway crap I need to get rid of. Maybe you could give it out for good behavior or whatever.

I don't know yet

I haven’t seen the tickets. Won’t know till tomorrow morning.

I have

Crawford t-shirt, Youth hat, Aki wirstbands, 2 pairs of Rays sunglasses, a Rays tambourine, and no children.

I beat up some deaf kid

Actually, they give full season ticket holders a grab bag of items. 1/2way through the season with a mix of the promos you may have missed. These include adult and kids promo items

It's alright

Though its kind of wasteful, as should be obvious by the fact i got a lot of crap I didn’t want. In past years you could just call your rep and ask for specific items if you missed them or wanted extras.

They'll be next to me.

And I have to be able to hear them. Losing a child would be bad.

Just don't tell the parents you lost the kid

Tell them that the the Indians sent him on a “spirit quest.” They’ll understand.

It's okay

My cowbell will defeat them (at least near section 119)

20k fans tonight

I’m now in the process of determining when the last time we drew that many for a non-Yank/Sox/Cub game on a weeknight (not counting Fridays). I’m pretty sure its the first in a long time.

by GomesSweetGomes on Aug 5, 2008 11:47 PM EDT reply actions

The Braves went from 17,000 to 26.000 from 90 to 91

They should be our barometer for attendance this year. I fully expect us to get our average up to close to 26,000 by the end of the season. We’re at 21,000 now with 2 months left and we’re averaging about 20K for weeknight games now and and almost selling out weekends.

The fans seemed to actually be cheering after the noise machine went off

Good development, I’d say. Great game tonight! I got to drink plenty of beer thanks to all the pitches.

Quick question

Does anyone know how Jae Kuk Ryu got hurt or how long he should be out for?
