I think it's time we trade CC

I think it might be smart this winter if we find another home for Carl Crawford.

It is very concerning for a 26 year old speedster to be complaining about playing the field everyday in his home ballpark because his legs hurt.  If he can't play everyday at 26 then what is he going to do at 28 or 30?

"Instead of playing every day on the turf," Crawford said, "hopefully (Maddon) can work in a DH (role) here and there."

Do you guys agree?  And what the heck would we want/could get for him?

A package for Colby Rasmus sounds fun to me, but that does not seem to fit a team that is in "win now" mode for once....

I don't think it's a good idea to turn your back on a guy that is/was the face of the

franchise for years simply for one down year. Unless he becomes really poisonous, I just see him as a guy that is playing through injury this year, and am happy that he is playing, even if it is at 75%.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

If you don't think he can contribute long term due to injury...

you do what you have to do. You can call it turning your back on him or you can call it doing what is best for the team not the individual player. Take your pick. Hopefully it won’t come to that but the post wasn’t saying we should trade him because he sucks or is having a bad year.

Hopefully CC can pick it up towards the latter part of the year..

In order to enhance his trade value. The problem is, the Rays dont have any in house solutions. Most people dont want to hear this, but it probably wouldnt be too difficult to replace the 2008 version of CC.
I know CC catches a lot of flack in hear, but I just wanna say, I dont think CC is a bad guy at all. I ran into him Tuesday night after the game, and he seems like a genuinely nice guy. Would love to see him revert to 2007 form, but all this sore knee talk at 26 is a bit concerning.

I dont think its

turning our back on him. He is most valuable when he his legs allow him to run, and run often. Otherwise we have a “star” OF that hits less than 15 homers per year and swipes 30 bags…and does not take pitches. That is can be easily replaced but it becomes much harder to replace 50 stolen bases. Plus, it might be best for his career to put him on grass to he can play his game.

Or we could get a new waterfront, open air, grass stadium, whatever works…

I would not trade CC

Unless we got back a RF and a LF that is major league ready with a higher ceiling.

this

would fit Colby Rasmus…no?

by PriceMultiCyYoungs on Aug 8, 2008 10:46 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

plus

LaRussa loves him some vets and hates him some rookies…Only manager that would play Skip Shumacker over Rasmus….

They're not that dumb

I can’t see Rasmus getting traded for Crawford.

Vogt early, Vogt often.

If he can't play in the Trop then he can't play for the Rays long term

I don’t care if he had the skills of Barry Bonds. You either can play or not.

BTW I really don’t see how the turf hurts him though. That crap is pretty darn nice. It isn’t like it is the concrete turf of old.

by matthan on Aug 8, 2008 10:31 AM EDT   0 recs

Not that im in the business of defending CC, but...

the fucking easter basket filler they have in the outfield is really quite hard. I’m not sure why you think it’s nice.

by Top Gun Numba 1 on Aug 8, 2008 10:36 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Its barely worse than real grass but far better than typical turf

by matthan on Aug 8, 2008 10:42 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

The guy has already proven he can play

He’s been our top performer through since 2002 when his career started. He waded through the shit that we put on the field and was a shining star. I think we all need to cut the guy some slack. If you’re a real (Devil) Rays fan, you know that Crawford always puts his foot in his mouth and complains about situations in the game. I’ve heard the legs complaint before, not to mention his spot in the batting order, among others. The entire team plays hard every day, and I guarantee you they’ve all said something about having tired legs. Hell, every baseball player has probably said it. It is hard for me to believe you trade one of your perennial top players over not thinking before he speaks to the media.

by jacksontsmith on Aug 8, 2008 11:05 AM EDT   0 recs

If anything

give him a few nights off and let Gabe Gross start in left. He’s been raking lately, and he’s a better fielder.

by jacksontsmith on Aug 8, 2008 11:08 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

No

He’s got a better arm the Crawford, but CC is better than Gross in the field in pretty much every other aspect.

by kericr on Aug 8, 2008 11:15 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

haha I don't even know what BP's Fielding Rate is

I’m just writing what I see. Gross can play the outfield, maybe better than anyone on the team. Other than BJ, of course…

by jacksontsmith on Aug 8, 2008 11:25 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

BJ has the arm for RF

Rasmus in CF. I have manlove for Rasmus…question is, do I need to get over it? He is the next Grady Sizemore afterall…

by PriceMultiCyYoungs on Aug 8, 2008 11:54 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

This really isn't comparable...

to his complaing about batting order, position etc. I think everyone in here is taking his comments at face value on this subject as his observations about how his body has reacted long term to playing on turf every day. He isn’t just saying he has tired legs and it may be in both parties best interest if he gets to play in grass. Just to restate: nobody is saying trade him because they disliked what he said.

by Sully on Aug 8, 2008 11:17 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I don't know.

His BABIP is about .020 points lower than I would expect, his walks have increased, his strikeouts have decreased, and he’s still a good defender.

by R.J. Anderson on Aug 8, 2008 12:55 PM EDT   0 recs

I will get myself a CC jersey

...when he learns to throw down a bunt.

by davelrogers on Aug 8, 2008 1:40 PM EDT   0 recs

Crawford is useless as a DH

I dont know who he thinks he is. Making way too many demands. He wont play CF, he wont leadoff, he wont bunt, and now he wants to DH some? What a joke

by blazinrayz on Aug 8, 2008 4:03 PM EDT   0 recs

starting to sound like manny

actually he reminds me of willy mays hayes in ML2 where maybe someone has to call him out on the team and maybe kick his ass and then he will become cc again lol watched this movie last night and cc reminds me so much of willy mays hayes lol

Longo=ROY. Friedman=Executive of the year. Maddon=Manager of the year. Rays=WS champs 08! fiddler cat=best way to show your excitement. BJ UPTON IS NOT LAZY! ! ! Gabe Gross=caption clutch.

I think it's time PriceMultiCyYoungs stops smoking the crack rock.

It’s OK to admit when you have a problem man. The first step is to accept it then the next step is to admit when your wrong i.e. “I think it’s time we trade CC”.
