The Tampa Bay Rays have already wrapped up the franchise's first ever winning season. But as the American League surprise team of 2008 continues to vie for an improbable American League East crown, it will call on an Orlando son for a little…um…Magic.
The Magic’s 22-year-old wonder kid and sometime Superman impersonator Dwight Howard will throw out the first pitch Sept. 17 prior to the Rays’ game with the Boston Red Sox.

It makes sense that the East-leading Rays would want Dwight Howard, Central Florida's greatest athlete, to throw out their first pitch.
Great work this season, by the way. I'm a Yankees fan jus sanguinis but, as an Orlando native, I like to see that the Rays have become a formidable baseball team. And Joe Maddon is, based on what I've read, the coolest manager in baseball.
Between the Rays' improbable ascension and the Magic's return to prominence, Central Florida has a lot of which to be proud, at least athletically.
