A Story in Regression: EJax and Sonny
2008 ERAs (not that ERA is great at what it claims to measure):
Jackson: 4.33
Sonny: 4.33
Huh, Jackson had almost a one run lead in ERA a little bit ago. I wonder if it would have been possible to predict that their ERAs would move towards each other over the past month? I bet a team could really succeed by knowing what to look for in a pitcher other than a good ERA.
(I half apologize for the extra snarkiness of my commentary.)

Sonny is too hittable.
Edwin is turning corners.
Or something.

when i see four of the five related posts in the sidebar were started by me...
i think maybe i’ve posted a little too much on this topic. but then i remember i really don’t want to see Jackson starting any more games for this team, and I don’t feel quite as obnoxious.

You weren't the first person to blow this topic up.
Don’t feel bad.

So basically you are saying that Sonny is hitting his stride now whereas Jackson is falling back. It happens. Baseball is a game of streaks. Anyone that has ever played, or watched, could have easily predicted that Jackson wasn’t going to escape all his jams forever and that Sonny wasn’t going to get bombed forever.
The conclusion of what you are saying is something that we all should know by now. Both of these guys are above average bottom of the rotation starters.
As most of you know I like Jackson more than Sonny. I think he’ll be better within the next few years and will have a signficantly better career. I’ve never said that Jackson is doing better this year, just that I’d rather have him in the future (not factoring in cost). Right now, especially for the next 25-30 games, I’d rather have Sonny pitching than Jackson.
