we gotta go 10-2

the worst record in baseball last league winning 100?

Will never be forgotten

by joeybw on Sep 17, 2008 10:41 PM EDT up reply actions

How sweet it is guys! How sweet it is!

What will really get me is if we can win 96 games. Last year we lost 96. That means we have to win 6 of the last 8 (which also would give us momentum going into the playoffs). Man, to be a fly on the wall in that locker room when we do actually clinch.

I really love how

everytime everyone in the media says “we are done we cant handle the pressure” we pick up a few big wins and everyone shuts up

WE'VE NEVER WON MORE THAN 70 GAMES IN A SEASON

WE’LL NEVER BE ANY GOOD

Shin-Soo Poo Poo

You think the Indians are capable of getting three outs before giving up two runs?

Delmon: .734 OPS

Harris: .718 OPS

They really can’t be happy with this.

by Vin on Sep 17, 2008 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions

you would think Delmon should gain on Gross going forward, yes.

but did he show any improvement from last year?

same exact average, .015 point gain in OBP and basically the same SLG. oh, and still a bad corner outfielder.

Look at his first half versus his second half

He didn’t show season-to-season improvement, but he did show within-season improvement.

So I have a problem.

I want to go to some playoff games. I have the money to go to playoff games.

The problem is, I don’t have any friends to go to a playoff game with.

Just to be clear, I have friends, but I somehow have accumulated a group of friends who honestly and sincerely don’t care about sports.

I have once exception. He is a Mets fan, and he has no desire to go to any Rays playoff games because #1 he’s a Mets fan and #2 he’s getting married and can’t afford to spend money on playoff tickets.

Anybody have any ideas on how to solve this problem?

There are MANY people on this blog that would like to go

I’m in Tallahassee and can’t (classes and all) but there are others here

That's true. I guess I'll do a fanpost about it once we get close and see who wants to roll.

I am all about hitting the Trop hardcore, all the way to the WS. I’ve already decided to get a pair of 20 packs for next year.

by kericr on Sep 17, 2008 10:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Do that

I’m already considering it

by steve-o1285 on Sep 17, 2008 10:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Was thinking about a DRB game next year

But if it could happen for a playoff game this year, that would just increase the awesomeness.

by steve-o1285 on Sep 17, 2008 11:03 PM EDT up reply actions

i agree

extensive tailgating would be necessary

by Roc on Sep 17, 2008 11:06 PM EDT up reply actions

RJ, work your magic!

If we get enough people, I wonder if we can get a reduced rate like regular season games? I doubt it, but I’ll ask tomorrow when I call the ticket office.

by kericr on Sep 17, 2008 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Get me some time off

I’ll fly down and accompany you.

I am considering....

flying home to the Trop all the way from San Fran. I have been waiting for this for 10 years…..I think I have to find a way. It’s either that or hope they play the Angels. But still not as cool as being in the Trop for a play-off game with all the home fans.

hmmm

would it be 9? Cuz if we tie the Sox, we still win the division.

by joeybw on Sep 17, 2008 11:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I just got back from the game!

Wow. I saw them lose twice, once at Fenway, and then at NY. So glad to see them win! I came all the way down from Boston and it was WORTH IT ALL!

I was sitting close to the Bullpen and several times Papelbaum gave me the evil eye, but I looked back at him, rang my cowbell, and said, “How do you like them apples!?!”

by plasticman on Sep 18, 2008 12:15 AM EDT reply actions

Tasr

Did you see the Sox fan get tasered on top of the Rays dugout?

by rays_world_champs on Sep 18, 2008 12:20 AM EDT up reply actions

I was all the way on the third base line--is that what happened to the guy?

I saw all the commotion, but could not tell what was going on besides an arrest?

Pics please!!!

by plasticman on Sep 18, 2008 12:25 AM EDT up reply actions

Wish I had pix

Big bald dude was getting escorted out and then bolted towards the Rays dugout. He either tripped or got tripped near the first or second row. It took two cops and a security guard to subdue him. It was awesome! I sit in section 206, so I did not get a close look, but he was definitely tasered, bro.

by rays_world_champs on Sep 18, 2008 12:31 AM EDT up reply actions

wow

We were pretty far away, but man, it looked like they broke his arm or something—took them awhile to get him out of there.

Not long after some other guy guy taken out too. Same section I think.

Ambulances

Also saw three or four ambulances outside gate 4. Someone asked one of the cops and he said, “the World Series champion Red Sox like to fight.” Yah, especially adter getting their asses kicked!

Every outlet that has commented on this, including ESPN, identified this man as a Sox fan.

Also, the look on his face is priceless in that pic. It just screams, “shit, I just fucked up bad.”

by kericr on Sep 18, 2008 10:33 AM EDT up reply actions

Fernie also confirms

Saying the guy was screaming “go Sox” even as he was being arrested…priceless.

It might be on mlb.com.

Check out the MLB page of ESPN.

In the same flash animated featured articles section they have TWO articles by Jayson Stark—one announces the Rays’ demise, while the other suggests they are back on top. What a quick change Stark!!!

lol

i haven’t like espn since 1999. i really miss keaith olbermann and rich eisen. and dan patrick and kenny mayne. sigh

Quote from article

"ccording to Major League Rule 33 and 34, if there is a tie for a Division Championship and the winning percentage of the two clubs tied for first place is higher than the winning percentage of each of the second-place clubs in the same league, the Division Champion shall be: the club with the higher winning percentage in head-to-head competition between the two tied clubs during the championship season. "

Rays won the series! Magic number is 9! And 3 for playoffs! Friday?

I was at the game and it was great.

The atmosphere was great. I loved it. I took pictures (sorry for the blurry ones I did not go through at all)

that show of Gomer douching Silky Slim is outstanding as is Longo’s slide by the catcher. Great game to be at I bet.

My knowledge of baseball stats is spotty at best...

…and I know this particular stat is meaningless, but how did Balfour notch the win last night?

by ReasonableDoubt on Sep 18, 2008 9:09 AM EDT reply actions

I was also at the game

Some Sox fan was talking shit and pissing people off near right-field where I was sitting, some Rays fan threw his beer at him as he walked away. The cops showed up like 5 seconds later and all of the Rays fans were like “he went that-a-way, go get him.” After the cops went after the Sox fan, the guy who threw the beer stood up and raised his hands and we all cheered and cowbelled him. Awesome atmosphere last night.
