Hinske's back in, but at least he's dropped to 8th.
Akinori Iwamura, 2B
Jason Bartlett, SS (yeah, still)
Carlos Pena, 1B
Evan Longoria, 3B
Cliff Floyd, DH
Dioner Navarro, C
Gabe Gross, RF
Eric Hinske, LF
Fernando Perez, CF
No but at least. Hinske should be banished.
Tools Whore
Sign Bonds!
Maybe not, but, I've mega-loathed him for a long time now. Far longer than a month.
Tools Whore
Sign Bonds!
I know you've always mega-loathed his defense.
But his April and June should have given you enough to not hate him entirely until at least mid August.
Meh, the important thing is we both hate him now.
Hinske isn't that terrible
as long as he doesn’t play in the field. He has legitimate 20-25 HR pop and has had his share of good games for the Rays this year. I can’t hate on him too much.
www.raysbb.com
Yes, we really do have fans.
I can hate on him. He plays the field, which is bad (I realize it's not his decision).
And for the second half of the season, he’s hit roughly like Adam Kennedy.
Tools Whore
Sign Bonds!
Dude, he is that terrible.
From June 29th up until today, he’s been absolutely putrid.
He had an amazing April and a pretty great June, but outside of that he’s been awfully bad.
His post ASB break OPS is down to .630.
I guess it's time for another episode of Eric Hinske's September OPS watch...
.171/.237/.200 – .437 OPS.
So, what do you guys think? Does it go up or down today?
Up
He’s set the threshold so low that I’m betting he gets on base at least once to raise his OBP.

None of these Twins pitchers have very imposing numbers
They’re all extremely hittable and give up tons of HRs. We’ll need a good performance from the offense tonight with E-Jax on the bump.

Yes, we really do have fans.
Minnesota's bullpen, outside of The Hummer, resembles ours last year.
I think we’ll be fine this weekend.

Zobrist has been unlucky in terms of BABIP.
But even so he’s not as good in left as Ruggiano. Compared to Hinske’s 36 chances in left Zobrist is 6.2 plays (or ~5 runs) better while Ruggiano is 14.42 plays better (or ~11.5 runs). Obviously Zobrist and Ruggiano’s splits are about half each of what Hinske has, but Ruggiano really should be playing in the outfield over Zobrist.
i thought BABIP was only a good stat for pitchers because hitters can have a good BABIP if they consistently hit line drives?
9 = 8
Both fluctuate.
And why would that make BABIP a bad tool for hitters? Hitting line drives is good.
by R.J. Anderson on Sep 19, 2008 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions
i mean...if a pitcher has a high BABIP he is unlucky....but if a hitter has a high BABIP, he is hitting line drives and not necessary "lucky"
9 = 8
Sometimes high or low LD% are unsustainable and extreme.
That goes for pitchers as well.

Chat with Jerry Crasnick :
Brian (Tampa Bay): Got a two-part question for you today, Jerry. With the way Fernando Perez has stepped up his game on the field and at the plate, what are the chances the Rays try and move BJ Upton in the offseason? And which team(s) do you see making a bid for Upton should the Rays indeed try and trade him?
SportsNation Jerry Crasnick: Brian, Fernando Perez is certainly intriguing with his speed, but I don’t think the Rays are sufficiently convinced that he can hit at the big league level that they’ll trade BJ Upton. For what it’s worth, Upton is actually a year younger than Perez. If Andrew Friedman did throw Upton’s name out there, I can think of maybe 15 teams that would be quite interested.
If Jackson blows this, I will never trust him again
because i know its usually hit or miss but this would be the end
