Stokesian Proportions

I had to share this...
I was on the phone with my pops this weekend and he was all excited because the Mets have this new reliever that's been lights out lately.  When he told me his name was Brian Stokes I almost fell off my couch.  I told him that Stokes was a bad word around these parts.  I also saw that they picked up Al Reyes, so if by chance they call up Ruddy Lugo, their pen will look suspiciously like Devil Rays 07.  If these are the guys they're leaning on down the stretch, the Mets should seriously start worrying.

Lefties are hitting .375 against him.

Not so good. He lights out against Righties with .175 BA against. But, all and all he is doing well. He was just put in the wrong situations last year. He was expected to be a set up guy, and couldn’t handle the pressure. Maybe he learned.

He threw over 70 innings last year

That should never, ever happen. Joe really didn’t have any options and you have to wonder how many we would have won last year with at least competence in the pen.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

Well we did lose 60 games in the last three innings alone.

So, we lost 96 games last year and you take just 20 of those loses and make them wins you have a team that was 86-76. That’s how bad our bullpen was last year. Shields pitched well enough to have 20 wins but the bullpen kept on finding ways to suck.

When Stokes is on he has 3 plus pitches

and is actually a solid big leaguer. The problem is, neither his stuff, nor his command has been consistent for any long period of time.

Brian Stokes is an excellent home run specialist.

When you need to kill the other teams rally by clearing the bases, Stokes is among the best in the biz
