The report implies that the Rocco’s mitochondrial myopathy is the same as muscular dystrophy, but it is not. Also, my wife saw the interview on Bay News 9, and she said that his constant exercising over the last few years was making things worse. My guess is that because when you exercise, the muscle actually tears and then rebuilds during a recovery period. His muscle probably wasn’t rebuilding the way it should, leaving him feeling weak for extended periods of time after physical exertion. His current practice of little physical activity between games and his limited playing time is probably the reason he is able to play at all.
