First off, congrats to everyone on this site who has followed the Rays since their very first pitch. Nothing is ever as rewarding as the first taste of victory!
As details continue to surface, we can kind of breakdown how the first round of the playoffs is going to go. I thought it would be beneficial to gather together some of that info. First the schedule...
Game 1: Thurs. Oct 2nd 8:30pm or 10:00pm (the 10pm would have been for the west-coast Angels, so we're most likely looking at 8:30pm for Game 1)
Game 2: Fri. Oct 3rd 5pm or 6:30pm
Game 3: Sun. Oct 5th 12pm
As far as match-ups are concerned, we obviously know it's either Chi-Sox or the Twinkies. With the way that Chicago is struggling, momentum is in Minnesota's favor (which I would prefer so I could see the Rays deliver the knock-out punch in game 3 in the Metrodome). If I heard correctly, the Rays will send out Shields for game 1. The real question comes for game 2. Do you send out Garza or Kazmir to the mound? Which one do you prefer to start at home vs. away? Ever since Garza found a way to keep his emotions in check, he's been an excellent pitcher--does that factor in to where he should pitch--at Tropicana, or facing his former team in his former park? But since Kazmir's season has been like a box of chocolates, how do we know which Kazmir we are going to get?
If you are making the decisions, how do you align your playoff rotation? And who would you rather face--the playoff experienced, but reeling White Sox? Or the surging, but inexperienced rotation Twins?
