Matt Grothe is like Peter Griffin in that episode where he stole that Mel Gibson movie, and he drives into the mall, and Lois asks him "WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM", and the Matt is like
“Relax, how many times have I done this before”, and Lois is like “Be Careful.”

how about a rain-shortened 4.5 inning game?
by Sky Kalkman on Sep 7, 2008 11:55 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
as long as we are winning
i dont mind a cheap win at this point, but 2 things.
1) Can’t they just keep the roof closed?
2) Doesn’t it need to be at least 5 if the home team is losing?
by joeybw on Sep 7, 2008 12:01 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
oh also
CC is still on track to come back the last week of the season which is just 2 weeks away, Longo is days away and best of all…..Percival is probably too tired to pitch today!
We are far from done, we will start killing it again soon.

Take the team out to some Toronto strip clubs post-game
Banging some 18 year old Canadian strippers is exactly what they need to release the tension and get back on track before the last six games of this road trip.

hi Mitch
i gotta see him actually pitch in the majors first
by joeybw on Sep 7, 2008 12:34 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He'll either be in the pen next year
or traded in the offseason. I’m pretty sure he, like Niemann, is out of options.
by Vin on Sep 7, 2008 12:35 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yep,
I think its looking more and more certain that we’ll trade some of these guys in the offseason. The Dodgers could definitely use Talbot and Niemann I think.
by Vin on Sep 7, 2008 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
But I don't want to deal Talbot :(
by R.J. Anderson on Sep 7, 2008 12:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
There's no reason he can't take Hammel's spot.
But if Niemann and Talbot land Ethier/Kemp (Kemp please) then I’d have to be ok with dealing him.
by Vin on Sep 7, 2008 12:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes.
But I don’t see the Dodgers valuing Talbot that way. Niemann maybe.
by R.J. Anderson on Sep 7, 2008 12:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Its hard telling,
But two young, high upside pitchers with virtually no ML service time would be a pretty good haul for what amounts to a surplus outfielder for the Dodgers.
by Vin on Sep 7, 2008 12:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Actually, I'll go on record right now
and say that we’ll trade two pitchers to the Dodgers and they’ll use the money saved by letting Lowe walk and buying out Penny’s option to try and resign Manny.
by Vin on Sep 7, 2008 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
personally
unless we get overwhelming offers, I’d like to see Niemann in the pen, where his health and mechanical issues are less of a problem. i’d like to see Jackson traded. and i’d like to see Talbot in long relief in preparation for the rotation.
by Sky Kalkman on Sep 7, 2008 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Mechanics are more of a problem in pen, kind of.
Apparently he takes a really long time to warm up and isn’t a viable option coming of the pen.
by Vin on Sep 7, 2008 12:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
actually, mechanical issues are better in the bullpen
easier to keep them straight for one inning than six.
but if that whole thing about him not being able to warm up quickly is true, then yeah, that’s not useful.
by Sky Kalkman on Sep 7, 2008 12:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I meant that mechanics would be an issue due to the warmup time. It takes him longer than usual to feel comfortable with his delivery, ect.
by Vin on Sep 7, 2008 12:55 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
So...
Percival — Niemann
Jackson — Price
Hammel – Talbot
I could live with those changes.
by R.J. Anderson on Sep 7, 2008 12:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
upgrades
Percival — Niemann: .5 to 1 win?
Jackson — Price: 2 wins?
Hammel – Talbot: 1 win?

Blockquoted paragraph
Carl Crawford had a successful checkup Friday and is still in line to return the last week of the season.
Crawford has been out since August 14 after undergoing hand surgery.
Blockquoted paragraph
Rays activated third baseman Evan Longoria from the 15-day disabled list.
Longoria won’t be in the starting lineup for several days, but the Rays had the roster space and decided to make the move. There’s a chance he could pinch-run and play defense early next week.
