from Newberg Report: Turnblow is a Ranger
It's either pathetic or sorta funny that this is my life: The kids made it
until about 11:35 before running out of gas, and I just sat down to my
computer minutes after the clock struck midnight, and the first news of 2009
is that, according to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, the Rangers have reached a
tentative agreement with free agent righthander Derrick Turnbow on a
one-year contract. The 30-year-old, who closed games for Milwaukee in 2005
with Mike Maddux as his pitching coach, reportedly chose Texas over Florida
and Pittsburgh.
Gurnick describes the deal as a minor league contract that would pay Turnbow
$925,000 if he makes the big league staff, with an additional $325,000 in
performance incentives.

I was kind of hoping we could've turned him into Balfour 2.0
but, oh well.

More like Jesus Colome 2.0
Mike Maddux had 3 yrs with him and couldn’t fix him. That’s like giving your bank account to Warren Buffett and having him hand it back to you throwing his hands up in the air

I dont think he is a complete lost cause
He had a phenomenol 2005 season, a so-so 1st half of 2006 where he picked up 23 saves and made the all star team and then blew up in the 2nd half, and then again in 2007 he had a very good 1st half and the wheels fell off in the 2nd half. Then 2008 was a disaster
Actually Balfour isnt a bad comparison. Age-wise they are 3 weeks apart, they’re both power pitchers whos problems were always from their control, and statistically Turnbow has had quiter a bit more success than Balfour, although he’s had more failures too
I liked Turnbow a lot a couple years ago, but it does look like his career is going down the toilet
