Kevin Goldstein: I'm willing to give Jennings a bit of a mulligan for 08 due to the injuries, and while the numbers don't overwhelm, some scouts who saw him in the Arizona Fall League said his tools stuck out like a sore thumb, so I'm still very high on him. Brignac is just weird at this point for me. The bat has not come with him at the upper levels, but at the same time, he's gone from a guy that some wondered would be able to stay at short, to a guy that gets really good defensive reviews. So now he's a plus defender with power but low on-base skills? Khalil Greene?
Goldstein seems to have the same comparison in mind that I did.

Our comparisions seem to be popular
C Dioner Navarro would seem to have a good case for the $2.5 million he seeks as opposed to the $2.1 million the Rays offered: K.C.‘s John Buck, with much less impressive stats, got $2.2 million last year in his first arbitration season; L.A.’s Russell Martin, with somewhat comparable stats in ’08, just settled for $3.9 million

We probably should have traded him for JBay...but then again, the Dodgers would have had trumped that offer anyway.

We did trade for JBay
but an illegal after hours deal was struck that allowed Boston to make an alternate offer to nab him, all parties should be ashamed of themselves, and one more reason to hate Allan Selig
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

The Rays lack of pursuit from this perspective is enough for me to start calling this heresay.

I know I have mentioned this before
But I talked with Friedman at McDintons in August at 3 am. We were both drunk and I told him I applauded him not making a trade just to make a trade. I said I really liked that he didnt trade Niemann and Brignac as well, and he came in close and told me that they were never BOTH on the table for Bay. That was also the night I approached Silverman and said “Matt Silverman, you sonnavabitch, how the hell are ya!”

Tim Taylor had all kinds of tools
And he was still always hurting himself. Desmond needs to be a little more like Al Borland if he wants to get anywhere.

Khalil Greene?
I just threw up a little in my mouth

He's not a bad player.
I would expect him to have a very good year this year. He’s been hurt by Petco offensively, and he’s a good defensive SS.

Yes, great with the glove
but Greene hasn’t exactly been lights out on the road away from Petco. Of course, that division has been loaded with great pitching but if you watch Greene hit, he is his own worst enemy. He reminds me of Gomes in that regard.

Brignac will rebound in 09
/nothing to back that up
Just a gut feeling, he will excite us again.
