Questions for DirecTV/Fios/Knology viewers
I am currently a Brighthouse Cable customer, and was considering making the switch to one of the mentioned providers. Last season, I got every game, with the exception of about 4-5 games. The reason I am considering siwtiching isn't so much for the Rays, as I'm covered, but for better out-of-market coverage. My questions are as follows:
1. What provider do you use?
2. Approximately how many Rays games are you able to get (please note that if you are in another state your answers may not be very helpful due to blackout laws)?
3. Of the Rays games you get, approximately how many are in HD (Brighthouse was about 50 on the season)?
4. For those of you who get the sports pack, are any of the out-of-market baseball games blacked out, and if so, how often?
5. MLB network is in HD on Brighthouse. Is it the same for your provider?
6. Id the Extra Innings package available in HD (for BrightHouse I don't believe it is)?
7. Would you recommend the switch to someone who needs the ability to see every Rays game?
Thanks for the info.

1. Direct TV
2. All Rays games that were televised-Next year all games will be on FSN Florida (155 they say the rest natl broadcasters will have or will not be broadcasted which is rare)
3. Same number of HD games, that is the decision of the broadcaster (FSNFL) and will increase next year from the ~50 number
4. No black outs with the extra innings package unless a game falls within MLB’s blackout rules (sat before 7, sun after 7 for the most part not incl marlin and ranger exemptions due to climate, or if a game is claimed by ESPN for their midweek games)
5. MLB network Is in HD
6. Extra innings is avail in HD, and most of the time you can choose b/w the home/away feed (out of market games)
7. You don’t need to switch to get every Rays game, you will get them on brighthouse just the same now that they have a deal in place with FSNFL
One thing you may want to consider is DirectTV will roll out 1080P soon to compliment the amazingly large number of hd chanels (will be an additional 70 b/c of a new satellite launched), so if your TV is 1080P you’ll want to look into that, also be aware that most HD feeds at this time are not in 1080P so it is more of a future consideration.

Thanks so much
Another consideration for me is college football, which I tend to watch nationally, and I already know there is no comparison btw Directv and Brighthouse there.
I wouldn’t say I’m a dissatisfied Brighthouse customer, so much as I want the ability to get more programming even if it means paying more.

1. DirecTV
2. I don’t have the mlb ticket, but i was able to see every FSN broadcast (in HD when available) and all of the channel 66 broadcasts(HD was not available….but i now have an OTA HD Antenna to watch it on).
3. nearly all on FSN, but none on 66 (this channel is not broadcast in HD on DirecTV)
4. N/A, but i would assume, as a prior poster has said, it goes by the MLB Blackout rules.
5. MLB Network is also in HD, right after NFLN.
6. Yes, it is. all games on the ticket if they are shot in HD
7. I have not had cable in 6 years now. I originally got DirecTV because of the sunday ticket (NFL) and never looked back. I’ve been from Memphis, TN, to Tampa to St Pete and the one thing i love the best about it is the channels have all stayed the same and i don’t have to learn a new lineup. Especially nice when i go visit my dad in NC since he has DirecTV as well :D

An HD Extra Innings Package would be nice. Or at least 100% of Rays games in HD.

I think MLB Extra Innings in HD is exclusive to DirecTV, as part of their Superfan package.
