can we start taking bets on how fast griffey gets hurt?

i understand griffey isn't the right fit, but...
let’s be a little fair here. the “injury prone” label doesn’t quite fit anymore. Old age, maybe. But from 2005-2007 he was pretty healthy. Even last year he nearly put up 500abs.

and hit like 3 hr's for the white sox because his knee was leaking fluid half the season from tripping over a locker.
He is the grant hill of baseball.

yes, he was injured last year on a stupid injury
but the last three years before that, he was healthy. That creates a trend. That is not injury prone. If you want to argue he’s more likely to get injured because of his age, fine. You can make a case on that. But you cannot argue he’s likely to just collapse like dominoes because he’s injury prone. That no longer is the case. It was 5 years ago. Not now.

"yes, he was injured last year on a stupid injury"
I would’ve said an odd injury, but it’s still getting hurt, and even worse is that he played through it.

Hypothetical what if
What if…we signed our big DH (Burrell/Bradley/Dunn/Giambi) and the FO decided Joyce needed some extra time in the minors (1-2 months) to work on hitting LHP, so they decided to sign Griffey for 1 mil plus incentives, with the intent of playing him in right field everyday until Joyce was ready, at which point, we would agree to trade him (with his value up from being healthy and playing every day) or release him, assuming he wouldnt want to sit on the bench. Would you guys be up for that?

you have it backwards.
Put griff in the field and his hamstring will explode all over that turf.

Holy Jesus no.
Perez/Gross in right field then. Griffey is a -2 win defender.

Ugh I know
Just trying to think of a hypothetical situation that could make both sides somewhat happy. Maybe if we signed a Dunn or Burrell, they could play RF while Griffey Dhed. ehh I’ll drop it. Griffey shouldnt be an everyday player with us under any circumstances. Doubt he would want to play the bench anyways, which wouldnt make sense with Crawford, Joyce and our new DH (if its not Bradley or Burrell) all left handed. We are already left handed heavy in our line up and dont need another left handed bat on the bench.

He's not good.
We won’t fail three+ times to get him at DH and the idea of Griffey in right field makes my soul die.

I think if Griffey were here there would be no room on the roster for Gross
Griffey, Burrell, CC, BJ, Perez, Zobrist, Aybar, Riggans and the other starting 5 = 13
with all the marketing and ticket sales for The Kid they would at the least platoon Griffey in RF with Perez considering nobody is really even certain yet what Perez will be as a MLer
Its plausible

this is IF Joyce was sent to AAA
I wouldnt like it, but I think its a plausible scenario

why the heck would we want Griff? He's like the opposite of F.A.T.

We don't and we won't sign him.
It would be stupid something that the Rays have not done recently.

"It would be stupid something that the Rays have not done recently."
Fail to read that? The new front office has not made many dumb moves. I don’t think they would sign Griffey I don’t believe they have any interest either.
