Lineup, Rotation, mid-season, 2009?
1)Upton CF R
2)Crawford LF L
3)Longoria 3B R
4)Pena 1B L
5)Burrell DH R
6)Joyce RF L
7)Navarro C S
8)Bartlett SS R
9)Iwamura 2B L
----
1)Shields R
2)Kazmir L
3)Garza R
4)Price L
5)Niemann R
Perfect L-R, all around, which Joe likes.
Yeah, leading off Upton might "waste" 30 HR, but with Bartlett & Iwamura, maybe not.
I think Sonnenstine will be a great reliever, & Niemann potentially a good starter, which is better than a "good" starter in Andy & a "probably ok" reliever with Jeff.

Andy is better than Dice-K. Just sayin'.
Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.
highly possible
Sonny is amazing and Dice-k is extremely lucky that he didnt give up that many hits/walks with so many runners on base
TB Rays in 09!!!
Wtf, 5 man fuckin rotation, and you forgot mister February...
"Don't test the cannon"! screamed Matt Garza after b.J. Upton throws another failed attempt of scoring by a tag-up!
which is better than a "good" starter in Andy & a "probably ok" reliever with Jeff.

Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

damn
I was gonna say Derek Lowe but he was a good reliever?
Can Dempster count? He went from starter to closer back to starter
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
Lowe was good as a reliever, but in comparison to his starting days about the same.
Dempster went from average starter to average/decent reliever to good starter. Perhaps.

Well the lineup is what I suggested so I approve of this!
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
Sonny is going to be a starter until he proves otherwise
or unless they decide to trade him if they think that Wade Davis is ready enough to take over his spot.
TB Rays in 09!!!
I think that Sonny will be one of the least likely traded
It makes sense to keep him around. Guys like Kazmir will become pricier and will become out of the Rays’ price range. I think the most logical thing to do is to keep a guy like Sonny around because he will be so solid, and likely for a much more reasonable price.

Agreed
We’re more likely to trade a pitcher who the market values properly. I’d venture that Garza is the most likely to get traded, actually.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
i hope not
i could see garza signing a shields type of deal after this year
TB Rays in 09!!!
If Joyce doesnt make the team out of spring training
does anyone think there is a chance they give Aybar or Nando a chance to play every day? I know everyone keeps talking about a Gross platoon, but personally Id like to see one of those guys get a shot everyday for a month or two, or how ever long it takes Joyce.

If Joyce doesnt make the team
which will sadden me, I would think Nando will play the lefties…..I can only hope he platoons with Aybar instead of Gross
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
I don't understand why so many people are skeptical of Joyce being an opening day starter.
He has defensive value, gets on base, and has good pop in his bat.
fer sandy, & etc...
I can accept Sonnanstine being a good starter, prob. even a #3…& what he did against the Red Sox last year was brilliant. That said, if Niemann’s the starter I think he’ll be, he can be occasionally dominant, & won’t get blown up the way Andy sometimes does. & I could be really, really wrong about that ;o) . I’m just not sure how good a reliever Jeff’ll be. Probably dominant(ha).
As for a 1st year platoon—-
1)Nando RF
2)Crawford LF
3)Upton CF
4)Pena 1B
5)Longo 3B
6)Burrell DH
7)Navi C
8)Bartlett SS
9)Aki 2B
?(!)
I guess I just don't see it out of Niemann
You may have had more of a chance to watch him pitch, as my viewings have been limited, but going off the numbers and occasional glimpse I don’t see much. He could be a solid workhorse as a long reliever/spot starter or a #4/5 on another team, but until we see what he can do more extensively we (myself included) are just flapping gums as we are wan to do in the offseason. Admittedly, I saw Sonny as a #4/5 guy coming into 07 and he has surprised me (joyously) to this point. If we could get the same from Niemann then great, but to this point I think it is rather unrealistic.
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

Rauch, Davis, Johnson
all got going around 25.
I think Joyce & Price make it out of ST
It was immaterial last year with Longoria, sending him down. Maybe it pissed him off more, made him more willing to work, blahblahblah. But I believe there’ll be a platoon between Joyce & Nando in RF to start the year.
