Seriously, the problem with British women is that they don't age well. At all.
There are a handful of exceptions, but most of them fall off a cliff after age 30 or a kid.
by kericr on Jan 8, 2009 5:38 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah
American women (celebs in particular) are crazy about staying fit, hot, etc through age. The idea of aging gracefully (i.e. not sexily) in American culture is frowned upon. I don’t mind, though.
by rglass44 on Jan 8, 2009 5:43 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I'm not quite on the same page with you
I understand what you’re saying about women who age gracefully vs. trying to stay sexy; I don’t necessarily think it’s frowned upon in the US as much as it’s frowned upon in the media. I knew a few British women in high school and have actually ran into all of them over the last year or so. Their mentality is to let themselves completely go; all three have put on anywhere from a bit to a lot of weight, don’t wear makeup, don’t bother with upkeep, etc. For three girls under 30, they all look to be over 40. That’s not aging gracefully or sexily.

By citing a bunch of young women, you've completely missed my point.

And I'm saying that you're still missing the point.
The point isn’t that they’re hot. rglass said british women are hotter than american women. I countered that they don’t age well, he countered that they age differently, and I cited personal experience.
This doesn’t change the fact that the younger women are damn gorgeous.
In other words, I don’t care that you don’t care, because I wasn’t talking to you about it.

I don't really like Tebow
I grew up a UF fan, and still cheer for them unless it has a negative effect on Wake (I was OK w/ Ole Miss beating them). Everyone in my family went there, and I would be disowned if I didn’t cheer for them. I was told that I would have to pay for my own tuition to any other SEC school (except Vandy), so obviously the Gators are still a team I root for.
by rglass44 on Jan 8, 2009 12:27 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I mean this in all seriousness...
How could you not like Tebow? I dont mean this as a flame or to get personal, but I dont get it when people say this. I think it is people just being haters or jealous. The kid is a ridiculous athlete, and a phenominal human being. If you dont like the way the media fellates him, then fine. That’s not his fault. It’s not his fault so many people adore him.
Is he too nice for you? Is it because so many people like him, that you wanna go against the grain?
I would be curious to hear why you dont like him. Hell, all my buddies are FSU grads, including one that was a captain on the football team…and they even admit it is tough not to like him.
by td32 on Jan 8, 2009 3:22 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I don't like the media coverage of him and find it annoying.
I love the guy as a player.
I should have put that I am tired of the coverage.
He also is a bit the douche-rocket, but can you blame him. He is a once-in-a-lifetime Student Athlete that is great on the field and off it. If there were more Tebows in the world of sports it would be a lot better place. He also isn’t preachy despite his devotion.

So did Mack Brown.
by rglass44 on Jan 8, 2009 12:23 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You must also have problems with
Pete Carroll, Mack Brown, Kyle Whittingham as all have lobbied for their team to be voted number 1 in the final AP poll this year.
Also didn’t Bob Stoops lobby to get votes over Texas, a team that beat him during the season.
I don’t see how you can like one and not the other
by Sveet on Jan 8, 2009 12:23 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I do
But Meyer is the one who started that trend, which makes it more reprehensible than the others. Once he made it part of the equation, it forced all the other coaches to become PR persons as well, trying to influence a body that by nature shouldn’t be lobbied.

The whole system is a sham
I just want them to go back to the way it was. Tradition is more important to college football, IMO, than “getting it right.” It’s never right, it’s entertainment.

The BCS system as it stands is bs
These guys want to win badly, and if they are a deserving team I dont see what is wrong with stating your case. We, of all people, know how idiotic the traditional media can be. Hell, they cant see past Wins and Losses for a pitcher…and they are the same ones deciding who the National Champions are.

Kind of OT, but not really.
Why Wake would be there if our predecessors weren’t jerk-offs:
The huge disappointment. Maybe the biggest disappointment of all came when other assistant coaches got different (head coaching) jobs. And Lombardi was a candidate for a job at Wake Forest. Now this is the south and we are going back to the late 40s early 50s. And you know that a lot of things are very slow to change. He interviewed and he was quite excited about it because other coaches from that staff (at Army) got jobs and he fully expected that he would get the Wake Forest job. A guy down there in North Carolina called him up and said. “Vince I have to tell you I don’t want you play out a charade. They had several number of people interview and you were one of them but they are not going to give this job to anybody whose name ends in a vowel.” Now whether the guy was right or wrong, Vince had believed him, and he did not get the job. It was a tremendous blow to him.

I could see them losing, but I don't see a pure beatdown on the horizon.
UF doesn’t want to get into a shootout with OU, they’d have no chance this way. They need to do what OU did to Texas and focus on running the ball to have a chance. Slow down the game, keep OU’s offense off the field.
Even then, it’s going to be tough for them to win.
I’m abstaining from making a pick because frankly, I don’t care who wins. Utah’s the best team in the nation right now.
by kericr on Jan 8, 2009 2:46 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
UF scored 45 a game.
That was good for third highest in the country. I’m pretty sure they can score with anyone.
by rglass44 on Jan 8, 2009 2:53 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
It's easy to run up the score when you beat your opponent in the 1st quarter and the rest of the game is an exhibition.
The Gator’s trademark has been to jump all over their opponents early. Your opponent loses a lot of will when the score is 24-0 or 28-3 after a quarter of play, all you have to do is hold your ground. If OU’s offense is clicking tonight, they’re just too good to let that happen to them. Florida has a good enough team to contend in a slugfest, but OU’s season was built around slugfests. The last thing Florida wants in this game is a score that resembles these two teams playing a basketball game instead of a football one. If they slow the game down and run the ball, take advantage of OU’s questionable D, and keep OU’s offense from ever getting in sync, they should be able to win by a rather comfortable margin, but if they try to out-pass OU, this game looks a lot like Arizona’s upset over Atlanta last week in the wild-card round.
by kericr on Jan 8, 2009 3:15 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Are you kidding!
Look at OU! All they do is run it up against crappy defenses in blowouts. They played one close game this year and lost it.

No way they get beatdown
I am expecting a tight game.
OUs offense is great but D is suspect.
UF is a much better all around team. Defense beats offense almost every time

Stomped?
Doubtful…. The Big 12 has been exposed thus far. OU hasnt seen any semblance of a running game or defense all season. Ohio State would have easily won their game had Wells not gotten injured, and they had a true freshman QB in there.
UF will win, and if they get any pressure on Bradford, it will be by double digits.

Obv as a gator alum im rooting for florida
Few random musings
When Urban was hired as the head coach, he came to all of the big fraternities to introduce himself. Probably one of the coolest speeches Ive heard. Pretty much telling us that we are going to kick everyones fucking asses and that every other team is our bitch. Literally in words similar to those. Tons of cussing and trash talking and just seemed like one of the coolest guys, the type of guy you’d love to get a drink with.
In addition to meeting Tebow many times in clubs and on the street, he had a funny encounter with one of my roommates gfs. She was walking along the side of the road and he hit her on her elbow with the handle bar from his scooter. And she was like, what the fuck man. At a loss of words, he just said "You know who I am!" and rode off.
Lastly, I had the pleasure of talking with Scott Brantley (former gator, buc, and current announcer for Gators radio) and his hot daughter at the Outback Bowl fancy dinner thing they have the night before the game. My dad has always been a huge fan since they went to college at the same time and he was the best player UF had at the time. My dad even tried out for the football team and got his ass handed to him. Dude had a fat dip in his mouth and was drunk and we talked gator football and about the BCS game. Def a cool guy.

In all championship games
Everyone always falls for the team with the sexy offense and award winning QB. It was the same thing with the Bucs and Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII. Then, the team with the better defense ultimately prevails. I think Florida wins tonight and wins fairly handily. No way in hell OU puts up 70 points in this game.
As for Utah, they went undefeated but does anyone truly think they’re the best team in the country. They barely beat the worst Michigan team in decades and should of lost to TCU had their kicker not gagged. They’re good, but not that good.

The pro's are different than college
Michigan flat out blew this year. Almost always in college sports, when a great team meets up with a bad team, they blow them out of the building. Some exceptions exist, sure, but my points stands. Look at Utah’s results this year: Barely beat Michigan, barely beat New Mexico, barely beat TCU, struggled with Air Force, only beat 1-AA Weber State by 16, and beat a vastly overrated Oregon State team by 3 at home.
Any team can get up for one big game a year and shock the world, but if Utah played in the SEC or Big-12, they wouldn’t of been anywhere near an undefeated season. Trust me on that. They don’t have the overall talent or depth of the top programs out there.

TCU is a quality team, Oregon State is pretty good (although overrated from their USC win), and Alabam obviously is good. Still, though, try going through a schedule like Florida or Oklahoma did this year and coming out undefeated.

The SEC was weak this year
Lost to Ole Miss, beat up on garbage TN, LSU sucks, UGA sucks, Alabama was over-rated, Ark sucked, Kentucky sucked, it was a down year for a normally difficult conference

It was a down year in college football it seems.
by rglass44 on Jan 8, 2009 4:05 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
And Florida beat the hell out of those teams
like a dominant team should to “down” opponents. They lost to Ole Miss, sure, but they turned out to be a top 25 caliber team and they needed UF to implode for them to even have a chance at winning that game (Florida was up 17-7 at half and turned the ball over two straight possessions opening the half).
BTW, even though UGA was a disappointment, they still won 10 games. They didn’t suck, they just didn’t live up to preseason expectations.
Hello.

So you have an elite team (UF)
and 2 good teams (Tide & UGA), then a whole bunch of mediocrity. Most years you have 2 elite teams, 3-4 good teams, and some spoilers. That’s the point I’m trying to make
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

by Sandy Kazmir on Jan 8, 2009 4:03 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Do you get what I'm saying though?
Most years it’s a given that one of the teams in the BCS game should probably be from the SEC. This year maybe you can make that case with UF, but running the score up against a bunch of patsies should not be the way to figure it out. Tonight we’ll see if they deserve to be there and if they take it home I will be proven wrong. It can go either way they are a good team with a good coach and it should be a fun game to watch compared to the last few years.
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

Haha I keed, but seriously the ACC fuckin sucks
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

I thought you'd never ask
I thought USC and Utah have had very convincing seasons, you can throw Texas in there as well, and both teams playing tonight, I think that’s 5 teams that should have a legitimate shot to call themselves #1, not to mention some of the more fringey teams like Oregon and TCU. I’ll tell you what the PAC-10, one of my favorite perennial overhyped whipping boys, has turned out with some pretty good teams here now that its mostly settled.
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

LOL
I meant conferences? The ACC has a winning record against the SEC. Vandy, who went 4-4 in the SEC got beat by Duke and Wake. Wake was 2-0 against the SEC and not good this year at all. That was my point. There is no conference this year that was all that great. The Pac10 was good in the bowls, but terrible in the regular season. The reverse is true of the ACC. I just think it was a down year for all of college football.

I can dig that
Probably something to do with so many schools outside of the factories being able to recruit 3 & 4 star players.

Other than beat four ranked teams (two who will finish top ten) and win at Michigan, how does Utah get in the championship discussion?
Yeah, Michigan sucked this year but it shows they were willing to go out and play anyone non-conference and the Mountain West was pretty good on it’s own; at least in the same discussion as a couple unnamed BCS conferences this year.
Plus, telling half the FBS teams they have zero chance at a national title before the season begins no matter what happens just doesn’t seem right.
by RATW on Jan 8, 2009 4:09 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I'd love to see Utah get a chance at the title
but using the current system, they don’t deserve to based on their resume and what conference they play in.
Again, I think in a one game scenario where they have nothing to lose, they could play with and beat any team in the country. I’m just not convinced they could do it on a weekly basis the way Florida and Oklahoma have had to.
Hello.

Yeah those teams never get weeks off...
The Citadel, Hawaii, Chatanooga, Washington, lower-tier Big 12/SEC teams are very, very tough.
by rglass44 on Jan 8, 2009 4:22 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Do you think Utah
Could go undefeated with a schedule consisting of Georgia, LSU, Florida State, Alabama, Ole Miss, etc.? Nobody is saying that Florida doesn’t play any cupcakes, but they are more tested week in and week out than a team from the Mountain West is. That’s just the way it is.
Hello.

Schedules
Utah went 4-0 against the 4 currently ranked teams they played this year (#4, #11, #17, #24) while Gators beat #4 and #16. It is a prime example why preseason polls are useless and polls shouldn’t happen until into the season. Utah didn’t lose to an unranked team at home this year but because they were not anywhere near a preseason poll they had to climb too far up to overtake one loss teams.

For tonight from OU message Board:
- Drink every time Tebow is called “a warrior.” Bonus chug if any of your friends sing the first two chorus lines of Scandal’s opus “I am a warrior” and change the lyrics to “Tebow is…”
- Drink every time Tebow’s called “a leader,” then salute. If someone is spotted in an American flag tie, drink again.
- Drink every time Tebow’s called a “special athlete,” then yell “Tiiiimmmmmmmmay!”
- Drink when Tebow’s referred to “as bulldozer.” If an actual bulldozer is shown at anytime, finish your drink.
- Drink every time the announcers say “Oklahoma hasn’t faced a quarterback like Tebow!”
- Finish your drink if an Oklahoma player goes blind on the field from gazing to intently at Tebow’s vissage.
- Drink every time the announcers reference the Heisman trophy, then make Heisman pose.
- Finish your drink if the announcers suggest Tebow should’ve won the Heisman again this year.
- Drink every time Tebow points to the sky. Then realize the only reason the sky hasn’t fallen is the strength of his pointing.
- Drink every time Tebow references God. Or himself. Tom-A-to. Tom-ah-to.
- Drink every time he’s shown on the sidelines flapping his arms like a bird to pump up the crowd.
- If (when) Tebow actually takes flight, finish your drink and do a shot.
- Drink every time Tebow’s on camera for no reason when the Florida defense is on the field.
- Drink every time Tebow is seen screaming with his helmet off.
- Drink every time they show a “I Heart Tebow” sign in the stands.
- Finish your drink if Tebow scores a touchdown and celebrates by physically ripping the heart out of an Oklahoma player and holding it aloft .
- Drink every time you see a Florida fan in jorts. (Small sips on this one. Otherwise it could kill you).
- Shot every time they mention his experience as missionary.
- Shot if he’s called a “runway beer truck,” ala Owen Schmidt two years ago in the Fiesta Bowl.
- If they mention him performing circumcisions in the Philippines while he was a missionary – Chug your beer, do a shot of Patron.

No way
His motion is so slow. Kiper has him in the third… as a TE.
That first pick was all on his slow delivery. I’d be shocked if he was a first rounder and/or a decent NFL QB.

Top Josh Paul Pornos- Big Navi Stroking, 2pitchers1cup, BJ to the Balls, Riggans Your Thingans
by SRQman on Jan 9, 2009 4:35 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Honestly, he's no worse a QB than Vince Young
He’s got a strong enough arm and can move around in the pocket and his arm motion is fine enough. A lot of crappy QBs in the NFL stare down wide recievers and have slow releases.
I don’t know if he will be an NFL starting QB. I do know that if he wants to be a QB he’ll be given a shot. I mean, Danny Warfel was a starter for the Saints for a handful of games and he had no chance whatsoever as a pro.
Do I think he can be a good QB? I’d say not likely, but maybe. Do I think he would be a better TE or HB then he could ever be a QB? Absolutely.
So I can’t really answer your yes/no question with a yes/no answer, because in my eyes, it depends on whether Tebow recognizes that he’d be better at another position then QB.
by kericr on Jan 10, 2009 11:49 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Do you think when he forces his religion on heathens
by giving the old snip snip to children he wears his rings? I’m not sure if that would help steady his hand. As for NFL what would be wrong with becoming the next Chris Cooley, H-Back, Tight End, FB he would have some value but the coach would have to put him in good opportunities to succeed.
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

Best Tebow quotes from announcers...(that I can find)
“if you’re fortunate enough to spend five minutes or 20 minutes around Tim Tebow, your life is better for it,”
“That might be the first thing he’s ever done wrong.”
-After his penalty
“probably the most ridiculous statement ever said.”
-about the Sooner guy trash talking

The comment was that Tim Tebow might be the 4th best QB in the big 12
Seriously, it’s not rediculous at all. The Big 12 has 3 exceptional QBs. I would have loved to have been in that booth to slap the bias right out of those guy’s mouths.
Though Tebow might be the best college QB I’ve ever seen.
