The Closing of the 2009 Season

The season's over in a few days and there's nothing to really write about -- minus asking where Matt Joyce and Sean Rodriguez are -- so in turn I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for making this site what it is. When I started here three years ago I just hoped to receive a comment on most of my posts, now I hope against it.  But really, the growth in comment quality and quantity has been impressive and hopefully something we can continue to build on heading forward.

Thanks so very much.

P.S.: We'll have open threads for the playoff games and some review/off-season based content going up, so just because the Rays year reaches the endpoint doesn't mean we're shutting things down.

The community that has developed on this site is really incredible

There aren’t many sites where you can comment in such a rational (yet sarcastic) manner so easily. The content of draysbay is always great, but in my mind, the strength of the community is what really makes it stand out from the pack. Thanks to everyone for making this a great place to waste a lot of time.

Also, Garza lit Davis' shoe on fire?

That’s a pretty sick prank.

A Red Sox fan here

This site has been a blessing for me, as it helped me a lot to understand the game and its new stats.
To all the authors and the members of this community (Ok not all of them), keep up with the good work.

Great jobs guys, this is by far the best website dedicated to the Rays

Even when I don’t comment I read your stories almost every day. In fact DRB is my home page.

Great job guys!

…Now I’m sad… :(

I convinced my fiance to use Rays colors for our wedding. What have you done lately?

Always a pleasure to stop by and see what you'se guys are up to

Likely see you during the Hot Stove season – should be an interesting one down there.

But RJ – are you gonna fix that attendance post of yours or not? It’s a blemish on your sterling record. :)

And Sandy Kaz – not to be a dick, but 41,974 after the 1st 4 of the final 7. Still gotta get about a 20K average with NY in the house this weekend to get to that 100K. I guess the presale should almost guarantee that though, no?

Not bagging on the Rays here – a downturn in a meaningless midweek series against the O’s is predictable. Still, I thought 120K was doable, and that sure looks like a stretch now.

Go take in a game ya’ll! Some nice pitching matchups to watch. The Rays’ future vs the Yanks top guns (for 5 innings anyway). Could be a statement series.

Not to be a dick, but we'll see which one of us assholes is closer, your 100K v. my 153K

Sneaking suspicion tells me you might be (no Price is Right rules), but I could see a lot of Fakee fans going to that series since the Yanks are the odds-on fave to win it all, they’ll want to say they saw them this year so they can brag later to no one in particular. Good luck to you guys, I won’t be rooting against you as long as those Beaneaters are alive, but I’d love to see Angels v. Dodgers.

Completely understand your sentiments on the possible Freeway Series

But it’s hard for me to see the Dodgers getting there with the way they’re limping in.

And I’ve had to listen to so much crap from Angels fans for so long out here I’m truly hoping for revenge.

You could be right that some fans could come out for superficial reasons, but I’m thinking the numbers will mostly be pushed by the presale – this series looked like it could have been a big one early on. Gotta believe plenty of folks wanted to join in.

Plus there must be some traffic drivers in place, no? Saturday concert? Fan Appreciation day? Anyway, not a super crowd for Friday night with NY – 22,700 – but that pace ends up comfortably between 100 and 110. Well north of 110 could still happen with 2 good nights – so take your friends to a game! And as I said, my true estimate was 120, but why quibble. Midpoint of above spread is 126,500, currently at 64,700, so it’s gonna take an average over 30K in the last 2 to get there – I don’t know. Upside is I believe tonight’s number pushed season attendance above last year’s.

So fix that post RJ!

Oh, and nice game for your side tonight.

by nyyfaninlaaland on Oct 3, 2009 2:41 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ended at about 123,500 for the last 7

Meaning a gain on 2008 reguler season of about 63K.
