Around SBN: Interview With UMD Athletic Director, Dr. Debbie Yow

OTTOTD: 10/13 - Release day

For you gamers, Brutal Legend drops today, as well as Fallout GOTY Edition.

Apparently, the Bucs are going to work out former Jacksonville WR/cocaine fiend Matt Jones.

Last month, GM chairman Bob Lutz issued an open challenge to any press publication that he could lap a CTS-V around any track faster then any other publication could with any other stock production sports sedan.  Jalopnik.com responded to the challenge with an AMG C63.  Mercedes-Benz whined like a bitch, but they managed to work it out; the throwdown will be done in NY with the Jalopnik guys using a Jaguar XFR instead on October 29th.

I wish the Bucs played the Rams

There is no way to predict what would happen when a team with a poitn differential/game -14.4 plays one with PD/gm of -22.4.

08 Lions PD/GM was 15.6

Me too.

The NFL this year seems a lot more imaginative and less boring than last year. Maybe it’s all the bad teams and the flourishing young QBs.

Cause the wildcat is soooo original!!!!!

It's still more imaginative.

It is a small change to keep teams on their toes.

I thought that Henne should be getting more credit

If he’s behind center they are almost certainly passing, since they did most of their running out of the wildcat. For Henne to beat a defense that almost surely knew he was chucking was quite an accomplishment.

Maybe their OL is really good.

Which is amusing. Smiley/Grove were second round picks of other teams, Long was 1A so there’s talent there I guess.

by R.J. Anderson on Oct 13, 2009 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Verney Carey was one of the best 15 college offensive tackles of the past 20 years, so that's helpful as well.

Smiley was absolutely disgusting in his last few years with the Niners. Grove was solid with the Raiders. It should be a good line.

With Faine this seems to be a pretty solid group

Without Faine its a lost cause. Reminds me of the Jets two years ago vs last year. One guard spot put them over the hump.

I'd like to see us go back to more man blocking and get Joseph and Zuttah in space more often.

I’m not saying we can’t handle zone blocking, but it’s a shame we don’t trap and pull more often.

Faine will make a difference simply because Mahan has been catastrophically bad.

Not that i’d want to… ZING!

What happened to your reliever post?

I did the contact%, tRA, and FIP of the top ~25. The guys we’ve rec’d turn out pretty well.

Work

I’ve been busy, and they’ve had me going to two different offices and stuff. That and went to Winston for football this weekend. And moving.

FREE SPEACH is a myth. There is no such thing as 100% free speech. You cannot go into a movie theater and say "FIRE"!…"What? I have freedom of speach!" Bull. Doesnt work that way. Any real lawyer will tell you that.

They haven't played a team with a win yet.

I’m not trying to make a statement about them, but rather how odd that is.

I read Posnanski too.

I didn't see it there.

Can’t read at work. We’ve been talking about it all week here (we being my friends and I).

My Failskins are f'n pathetic

Any team with competent coaching would be at least 5-1 with the schedule they’ve opened with. How in the hell does Chris Cooley have zero targets in a game? You can’t call a play that gets your best offensive weapon at least one look?

How fun was Stamkos' goal-to-goal break last night?

The ownership made last season pretty awful, but I gotta admit, they have some fun players.

Hmmm...

I assume that’s because the others all factor in singles. Singles, I imagine, are the most likely to be luck driven of any hits.

As in 1B/H or 1B/PA?

I guess it doesn’t make much of a difference, though.

I was thinking H.

I’m working on an ISO post for FG, after which I’ll run the values through my database.

Based on 07/08 500+ AB:

H% R2
1B 0.5738
2B 0.1301
3B 0.554
HR 0.6243

So 2Bs seem to be the most unreliable.

Hmmm….

That would explain why Iso does better than OPS/wOBA/SLG, but not OBP or AVG. 2Bs are a much bigger driver of Iso than AVG or OBP.
