OTTOTD 10/22: The Get What You Deserve Edition

"Genuine communion," said Demian, "is a beautiful thing.  But what we see flourishing everywhere is nothing of the kind.  The real spirit will come from the knowledge that separate individuals have of one another and for a time it will transform the world.  The community spirit at present is only a manifestation of the herd instinct.  Men fly into each other's arms because they are afraid of each other -- the owners are for themselves, the workers are for themselves, the scholars are for themselves!  And why are they afraid?  You are only afraid if you are not in harmony with yourself.  People are afraid because they have never owned up to themselves.  A whole society composed of men afraid of the unknown within them!  They all sense that the rules they live by are no longer valid, that they live according to archaic laws -- neither their religion nor their morality is in any way suited to the needs of the present.  For a hundred years or more Europe has done nothing but study and build factories!  They know exactly how many ounces of powder it takes to kill a man but they don't know how to pray to God, they don't even know how to be happy for a single contented hour.  Just take a look at a student dive!  Or a resort where the rich congregate.  It's hopeless.  Dear Sinclair, nothing good can come of all this.  These people who huddle together in fear are filled with dread and malice, no one trusts the other.  They hanker after ideals that are ideals no longer but they will hound the man to death who sets up a new one.  I can feel the approaching conflict.  It's coming, believe me, and soon.  Of course it will not "improve" the world.  Whether the workers kill the manufacturers or whether Germany makes war on Russia will merely mean a change of ownership.  But it won't have been entirely in vain.  It will reveal the bankruptcy of present-day ideals, there will be a sweeping away of Stone Age gods.  The world, as it is now, wants to die, wants to perish -- and it will."

Agreed

Peyton looks like he was playing hurt last year. They’re back to the point where they only need the ball 5-6 times a game to win.

Garcon runs a lot of deep routes. Collie is the underneath Welker guy

Targets are 28-21 with Collie’s role increasing the last few weeks.

Hilarious that they pretty much stumbled upon the perfect formula for an offense, though.

The moves were the obvious ones to make, it just so happened that, last year, they were obvious for the right reasons.

FO can't quit Gaines.

Similarity scores.

Adams is actually five pounds lighter than Okeafor, and he may be better suited to playing outside linebacker in a 3-4. Failing that, it may be in the Bears’ best interest to split him out wide and tell him only to rush the passer, as the Colts do with Dwight Freeney.

These guys have never watched this load play at the pro level, that much is painfully obvious.

That and physical skills only get you so far.

If physical attributes told you everything then you wouldnt need to scout, just show up at the combine, ogle college kids in their underwear, break out the tape emasure, scale and stopwatch and go to town.

That's the thing.

Some people put zero stock into systems, what different attributes mean, and if someone just wants a paycheck. Numbers are meaningless when not taken in context. So what that Graham Harrell threw for 238490238 yards a year and Matt Ryan only threw for 2500 (guessing). Context people.

Imagine that red giant you wrote about the other day. A swelling, imperious sphere of unfathomable heat. Now, imagine that, written in the quarks of those fiery molecules, were the words FIRE RAHEEM, and the strong nuclear force holding the stellar mass together was irreparable retardation.

You put Hambone as the central figure in a heliocentric theory, which turned out to be astoundingly wrong, from both a scientific and baseball perspective.

It wasn’t until Galileo and AF came along that we understood that there are many suns in the void around which our fortunes can spin.

You may have intended that, but since you didn’t mention the failure of the heliocentric theory, I wasn’t sure.

By the time we develop near light speed engines, they’ll be beyond forever away. Not to mention that the other side of THIS galaxy is billions of light years away. I’ll be surprised if we don’t kill each other before we build a Sam’s Club on Jupiter.

lol
The difference is that John Gruden will take a mediocre team with talent, and give you an 8-8…or even a 9-7 record. With Raheem, you get 0-16. If Gruden coaches a good team, he wins the Super Bowl… with Raheem…you would be lucky to get 8-8, even 7-9. The guy is just clueless.

I love listening to 620 WDAE on my way home from work each week, and listen to the “Big Dog” blame players, owners, fans, front office…BUT he still refuses to put ANY of this on Raheem. I think that is a joke… A lot of people on this board are the same way…they refuse to see what is before their very eyes…

What is everyone waiting for? I choose to believe my own eyes…and I don’t like what I am seeing. If you guys are happy with this crap, then good for you.

I am stuck with season tickets, that I couldn’t dump for 25% of the face value… After paying for parking, one beer per quarter for me and my wife, food for all four of us, and gas, I am into it for at least $200 bucks each Sunday.

It’s literally like going to the ATM machine on the way to the game, pulling out $200, then setting it on fire. That is how much of a waste it is!

I bet most of the Rah-Rah supporters out there aren’t blowing their hard earned money on this crap…

Gruden also picked in the top five twice in the past five years, but we’ll ignore that aspect.

There aren't many teams built in a year, and with absolutely no research

I would venture a guess that most of these teams with long term success took time to build up. I don’t want a one year wonder, i want a consistent contender.

I think Bucs fans also look at the late 90s, early 00s teams with a warped perspective.

They’re all crying about the lack of FA spending, as if the Glazers had always been free agency prospectors. But, in truth, the Keyshawn move, Simeon signing, hell – the Gruden move, only came when the team was thisclose to a title. The Glazers (and later, Gruden/Allen) have always adopted a build from within policy. They don’t spend big money unless it’s going to make the difference between divisional round knockout and SB appearance.

But dropping 2 bills to watch a win is like handing your money to people, never to see it again?

If you go to the game only to see a win then you might as well watch at home. If you go for the camaraderie, the atmosphere, the tailgate (where real fans get good and drunk on the cheap so that you don’t need to drink as much or eat at all in the stadium), or the joy of watching the game up close and live then I salute you. Real fans of this team don’t really care if we win or lose, just enjoy the moment and hope the wins pile up down the road.

I consider myself a true fan and I sure as hell care if we win or loss.

Im not gonna hop on another bandwagon, but I get why people are frustrated, but to complain about the money is a bit absurd. If you dont have it to spend, dont buy season tickets. I go to the game for the atmosphere and time with friends and family, but wouldnt mind seeing a few wins.

I think you get my point though

Yes a win is better than a loss, but my attitude about going doesn’t change one way or another. If I lived down there and had season tickets I would still look forward to every home Sunday, because I know that I will have something kick ass to do outside, will get stupid drunk, and see some hot trashy babes. Yes, winning is awesome, but it isn’t the reason that I watch.

This won't happen, but I'd like to see them give Miller and Moore more snaps.

Sims should only see the field for about 15 snaps out of team – any longer than that and he starts to play like shit. It was shocking to see them pull Hovan for Miller and yet Sims continues to sit there on the drive, sucking wind and losing any semblence of technique.

by Suttree on Oct 22, 2009 11:47 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm sure it has to do with his laziness, but he was wildly effective in pre-season.

I’d start him and Miller and let them be active and disruptive. It would help our linebackers exponetially and actually occupy interior linemen.

by Suttree on Oct 22, 2009 11:50 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I know you're not a fan of Hovan, but I like him on the field

Maybe less reps should be in order, but I want him getting more than anyone else. Also, I wouldn’t mind seeing Jimmy Wilkerson moved inside on 3rd and long or obvious pass plays.

Did you question the use of the timeouts by Morris?

www.bucem.com - SBNation's source for all things Buccaneer

by Buc Wild on Oct 22, 2009 11:49 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You know, it's not something I've really thought about.

I’m in the process of grading the offensive line, so I’ll get to the coaching staff after that. I wanted to take a look at Olsen’s play calling and formations, so I’ll think about the timeouts while I’m at it.

by Suttree on Oct 22, 2009 11:51 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You're right, did we even take a single timeout?

The defense was obviously gassed and ineffective.

by Suttree on Oct 22, 2009 11:52 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

We did, right before and after the 2 minute warning

when they were inside the 10. At that point, it was inevitable they would score. They could’ve given our defense a breather along the way. I just thoguht they played that pretty bad. I agree with not using them right away, but once you see your team getting blown off the ball enough times, call a time out

I think there is a point for that.

I was just amazed at the lack of reaction by the coaching staff, the players, and fans on that drive. And then, to see no timeouts called until they were inside the 10 just blew my mind.

Word, ultimately the decision to call a time out is on Morris, but you would think Bates would bring it up.

I would have no problems canning him after the season, unless he’s willing to start the younger defensive linemen. Olsen’s kind of got a raw deal because he’s not really running his offense, but Bates has been bad.

I think Olsen is running more of "his" offense than we think.

It's a (very) quick look at some poor game management issues

lack of game plan, lack of running the ball, two minute drill fail against Dallas, not attacking the middle against Buffalo, FG against Wash with 4:30 left instead of going for it, no screens or “blitz beating” plays against Philly and Carolina game FG miss (play before it) and non usage of time outs at end of game.

It's not as in depth as I'd like, but some of it I'm going off memory or just the play by play account.

There are some very key components to the game that the coaching staff has overlooked it seems. Basic subsitution patterns, clock management, and how to gameplan for an opponent, which I’ve already covered.

Well, I guess im more lenient that others

These are big mistakes, but if he learns from them, so be it. Some of these mistakes are made by coaches who are 3-4 years into their job.

I havent hopped on the Fire Morris bandwagon yet. I think there are a ton of issues, and he is one of them at this point, but its even more glaring (his mistakes) because of the lack of talent.

I think it was last week that Dungy said his advice to Morris would be to

Stay the course and don’t change your coaching mentality. It’s going to be hard for him to do that with all the pressure but I’m hoping he can learn from his mistakes.

People have to remember just how raw of a head coach he is. Possibly the greenest ever.

Skiles lost the team though (as cliche as it sounds)

by SRQman on Oct 22, 2009 1:38 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed, that's why I think I don't mind the mistakes as much (vis a vis lack of talent)

Provided he learns from them. I think Raheem has been thrust into a difficult position without a true mentor. It’s not like he was in our system for years in advance either, but I see qualities that I like. Like most of our team, I hope the mental game continues to evolve for him.

I agree

Progress doesn’t mean winning every game from here on out, it means not making the same silly mistakes. You won’t coach a perfect game, but you can’t continue the same mistakes over and over again. Like putting Clifton in on 2 minute drills, at this point, he has lost that job and to put him back there when we have 3 other possibilities is just irresponsible.

I just don’t agree with your need to belittle other people, especially those just writing fanposts, about the merits of their writing abilities. If you want to rip up the guys that do it as “Bloggers” or “Assistant Bloggers” by all means feel free. They are in a way asking for it by writing for the site in an official capacity.

But you gotta admit, even to yourself that comparing Josh Hamilton to the Sun is a bit of a stretch, although I appreciate what you were trying to do, I wasn’t a fan of that one.

I understand that.

At the same time, if people are going to sign up to use this site, then blatantly ignore the rules, then they won’t last long here. It’s not about being a douchebag, it’s about representing the site well. Hook85 probably thinks I’m the biggest dick ever and that’s fine, but go look at the thread he was banned in. I warned him, without belittling him, five-to-six times. Others even chimed in telling him the lack of shift is frowned upon here. He didn’t abide by our rules, he’s gone. Also note that he doesn’t have this same issue at BE.

As for my writing. I’m not skilled at prose, I never will be. I work with facts and stupid jokes. Some people find the former worth tolerating the latter.

Theory: Microsoft wants to kill Japan.
What could be more American than celebrating the launch of a new product with an almost comically unhealthy fast-food product? Unfortunately, the seven-patty Windows 7 Whopper is only available in Japan.

Officially now the head of the Lobstein bandwagon.

I question how Robin Lacey survived childhood
hats off to the boys from dray for coming over here and calling people names and insulting their intelligence, where would we be without the masters of sarcastic elitism telling us how stupid we are.

Robin, make sure you look both ways when crossing the street. Also, don’t eat yellow snow.

Was it because I banned him?

Protip: When the admin says “Use the shift button or I’m going to ban you” it means “Use the shift button or I’m going to ban you.”

If you can’t use the shift button, you aren’t welcome here. That simple.

Yea, I got rid of that

I didnt see anything wrong with the exchange taking place, outside of the use of the word retard, which doesnt offend me but could offend others. The actual debate, while parts were lacking merit, was alright. A healthy exchange of ideas is OK

I have a buddy who lives out in Cali

We exchange various sports memorabilia. He sent me a Stomper (A’s mascot) puppet that makes elephant noises and stuff. I gotta send him an Evan Longoria and Thunderbug plush then he will send me a Sharkie doll.

Welp. I've been Censored and Niko is the Politboro.

Time to get banned in style. If I’m going to be censored I don’t want to post anymore.
