Tampa Bay Rays Arizona Fall Leage Update: Paul Phillips Pitchfx Data

Paul Phillips time in the sun. He topped out at 92, here's the movement graph:

Looks like some four and two seam action, a slider, and some curves. Too small of a sample size to say much.

---

Stephen Strasburg started today and gave up three home runs. This is a hitters' league, so whatever.

---

Former Rays Joshua Butler (Gabe Gross) and Travis Schlichting (Josh Paul) also pitched in the game.

3 HRs allowed for Stras

I don’t even have to check the box to know that there is no way Nevin Ashley caught him today.

ya...

Saw him pitch a couple of weeks ago in the Fall Instruct. League in Viera/Melbourne FL, he must not be able to handle his nerves w/ 100+ guns on every pitch he lets loose, cause when I saw him his curve and slider were ML pitches. At least this gives the Natinals* a reason to delay his FA by a year.

A funny thing happened........

…… on the way to the park. I went there to be in awe of Strasburg, but left at the end of the game, impressed, once again, with Phillips of the Rays. In checking him out later, I read an interview/article, suggested by FreeZorilla, on another post in this site. After reading that article, his success this year is less of a suprise. With that heavy sinker, biting slider and riding fastball there may be much more to come. His numbers don’t tell how good he throws. In particular, GO/AO is a false read, due a large number of his “fly outs” are weak pop ups to infielders.

As with all of "em time will tell, but I like him.
