Around SBN: Baby Boilers no more: Michigan State-Purdue Preview

OTTOTD: Slow down, slow down, slow down. I've learned this the hard way. You gotta read slower, bite the words off.

[A bottle of Wild Turkey is introduced.]

HST: Aw, man. I drank this like some sort of sacrament for -- I mean, constantly -- for I think fifteen years. No wonder people looked at me funny. No offense. This is what I drank, and I insisted on it and I drank it constantly and I liked it. Jesus. I laid off it for six months and went back to it -- an accident one night, in a bar -- and it almost knocked me off the stool. It's like drinking gasoline. I thought, what the fuck...?

[At HST's request, a cardboard placard is brought into the room, bearing HST's obituary of Richard Nixon for Rolling Stone, dated May 1, 1994, and entitled, "He Was a Crook."]

HST: Here's one of the things I'm proudest of. It's about time you read something. Why don't you read that for us? This will be a lesson for you. Start at the beginning. If you haven't read this, it might explain a little more. Take it from the top. Headline and all.

[MH proceeds to read aloud the entire scathing obituary.]

I want to look at attendance figures after the year is over.

I wonder if the attendance at Wembley is counted since it’s a home game.

I bought Madden for the first time in three years.

It’s changed a lot from what I remember. I have a sweet team, other than Nate Davis as my starting QB.

I fantasy drafted. My Bucs team is pretty sick. Flacco, Slaton, Ray Rice, Boldin, Bowe, Cooley, Heath Miller as offensive options.

Yeah, pretty good. Running is easier than two years ago (when I last bought Madden), but its very precise. You can't just not pay attention.

I did bust an 84 yd TD run with Slaton, though, off a stretch to the strong side.

What sort of playbooks do you recommend? Is there a way to build a custom playbook?

Uh I don't know

My offense doesn’t really include passing. I play as the Phins online and wildcat the shit out of everyone. When they figure that out I go to more basic running and mix in Pat White running out of shot gun/short passes (very high percentage completions) I use Miami playbook or Run N’ Gun.

by SRQman on Oct 23, 2009 11:22 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I use the balanced playbook, but usually favor running WCO style plays. I might try out the Run N Gun playbook.

Time for some gloom...

So a garbage man was killed right by my house early this morning, I’ve never heard an accident live before… but I’d guess this would be one of the most brutal sounding ones.

Niko seems to have no problem with completely bashing worthless opinions. Name calling and personal attacks don’t really make any arguments stronger. Thats what he is against. It doesn’t seem like too much to ask to respect that wish on his community. To that note, I think he is going to try to ease up on the deleting of comments. I encouraged him to let the community reaction dictate what is really over the line. Ultimately he is in charge.

This is constructive and not meant in a harmful way, but it's probably time to let that place figure things out on its own.

Whatever that may or may not include.

I’m not saying don’t visit there, because I do appreciate the work put forth, I’m just saying let’s not get into site management. As far as discussing content? Go ahead.

by R.J. Anderson on Oct 23, 2009 12:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

R.J. feel fre to delete or hide this (seriously) if you feel it's too taboo

but the issue with SBN seems to be derived from the BE posters crossing over here. It’s almost like they hear about DRB, come over here, and without reading guidelines or TOS, they wander into these threads (OTTOTD) which are not at all representative of the site in general, more of a local hang out. But they come in here and either try to pick up an old argument or just flail away. At that point, they are on your “turf”. I understand the issues with name calling and all that garbage at DRB, and while Niko has decided to ban people, the real issue is when SBN discusses this with you. Those issues are from BE posters here.

I have no problem with crossover either way, but for the sole purpose of trolling or creating problems, meh. I like it when DRB guys (and BE guys) get in on a good conversation, but to just come over here and post to stir up the hornet’s nest is not a DRB fail, its an individual fail on that persons part (i.e. BFLII yesterday)

www.bucem.com - SBNation's source for all things Buccaneer

by Buc Wild on Oct 23, 2009 12:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Culture shock on both sides.

Still, I sure as hell don’t want your little monsters discussing my shift rule, and I don’t think Niko and you appreciate these vermin discussing why X got banned without a warning while Y has been warned thrice and still isn’t banned. It’s not productive. If there’s an issue, they need to email you two.

by R.J. Anderson on Oct 23, 2009 12:59 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fair enough, I've never had an issue with that

I’m probably more tolerant over there of the DRB stuff because I’m around it. Maybe it’s my fault for allowing it, though at the time I didn’t see the harm. It’s ridiculous it got to this point. I’ll handle my end as best I can in the capacity which I’m allowed.

Eh, just seems like a death wish to draw a line in the sand for BE

There is obviously a lot of crossover in fanbase. DRB readers account for a lot of their traffic. There is not much use for a “blog feud”. There should be some middle ground and I think ultimately he is willing to work towards it. At this point DRB users o bE probably need to do more conforming than BE management People just need to respect their guidelines rather than challenge them. .

I agree with this.

DRB’s mannerisms are unique to DRB. You can’t go on McCovey Cove using DRB memes and expect people to understand who Helliot is. Just like a LL user here talking about Death to Flying Things is going to confuse.

Don’t assume every place is as loose as DRB when ti comes to things like social commentary through means of sarcasm or parody either.

Example

Playing a random guy just now. I get up 24-14 and stop him on a 4th and 16 (Yes he did a fake punt. So stupid) He offers for a friendly quit (basically means the game doesn’t count) I go “No.” then he just quits and to get the win I gotta finish the game vs. the CPU….so pointless it should just end it there.

by SRQman on Oct 23, 2009 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Also I see a reason why

Example/ I get in a game with my friend, he lets me score real quick quit game and I get the win. But when it’s matchmaking (random people) and it’s the 3rd/4th quarter it’s just annoying. Hell I had people quit in the 1st when I go up 28-0. They should either have a super sim or something though

Okedoki a little trick for ya.

If you got a mobile QB this is great. Do shotgun formation, then a play action play. You then audible the RB you are doing the fake hand off too to do something else. You get like a second head start to scramble cause he just takes the snap.

Have you had more success with the 3-4 or 4-3?

I’m two games in and I’m using Josh McDaniels playbook on both sides of the ball. Pretty meh so far.

I run the NE defense with the Phins online

In that I usually go with the Nickle 1-5-5 or 1-5-5 prowl. It’s basically a nose tackle, 5 linebackers and 5 DB’s

Pretty high. If JJ can limit himself to one bad decision (that preferably doesn't turn into an interception) against the Pats, I'm going to be pumped.

His accurate pass percentage is right in line with really good NFL quarterbacks, but he’s making bad decisions on an aaron brooks pace.

I realize im not welcome here, and I wont argue that point, but I wanted to come in and give everyone a message personally.

Someone said this really got out of hand. It has.
I think, from the tone of this thread, that there is a chance we can put a lot of that stuff behind us, if we want to.

A feud serves NO PURPOSE whatsoever.

I realize there are going to be some people who are going to say " F Niko, this and that, he can go whatever."
I can respect that. Then don’t come over.

There is a definite difference in customs and cultures between our two sites. Much as you guys know, Niko is Greek. I am not really Greek, my grandparents and my dad were, I was born here and dont practice much at all, and am as apple pie as you can get, yet I’ve learned to work with both cultures in my family by respecting them both.

I think there is a chance here to work out something here. I intend to UN Ban everyone from the DraysBay site for use on Bucem.

If I have not unbanned you, its not on purpose, I just overlooked you. Please email me, or BW, and they will un-ban you from Buc’em.

All I ask, is if you come over to BucEm, please respect the way Im trying to run the site, and refrain from attacking someone just because they have an argument that you see through like a fine silk. I realize a lot of the posts on Bucem dont hold well. But I want a site where anyone can post what they want about the Bucs, and the community can debate the merits of it.
I regret removing all the posts yesterday, because I realize that the problem had resolved itself, and I lost a lot of good content from the site. In a lot of ways I am still learning a lot about what I am doing over there.

I will begin to remove bans Immediately.
Hopefully we can put all of this behind us like grown men.
I am not apologizing, nor am I asking for an apology, nor do I feel I deserve one. Im just extending an olive branch so our two sites can go back to dealing with the Sports and teams we love, on both sides of our Bay.

If anyone can get production out of Gaines Adams, it will be Rod Marinelli. Good Luck Gaines and thank you Bucs for restoring my confidence that there is accountability.
