The Greatest (Devil) Rays to ever wear... 60
I saw a former fling of mine yesterday. She looked well, she looked like she was really going places. Yeah, she is seeing someone new, but I don't really mind. Her name is Playoffs, and I and think we might get together again someday.
The only rules for this poll are two really:1. The player has to wear the number in the regular season.
2. Coaches are not involved, only managers.
There are numbers that shall be uncontested like:
#98- Jae Soe
#97-Joe Beimel
#80- Julio Santana
#71- Damian Rolls
#70- Joe Maddon (Manager)
#68- Ruddy Lugo
#63- Jim "The Rookie" Morris
#62- Jeff Sparks
#42- Jackie Robins (Retired by MLB, various players have worn "42" for Jackie Robinson day)
#12- Wade Boggs (Retired)
***********************************************************************************************
Voted by Draysbay.com:
#61- Travis Phelps (95% of the votes)
Today we discuss #60:
The Canidates:
Victor Zambrano(2001-2004) and Jonny Gomes (2003-2008)
Victor Zambrano was originally signed by the New York Yankees in 1993, only to be release in 1996. Later that year the Tampa Bay Devil signed him and he made his major league debut in 2001 wearing #60, which he continued to wear for his first 2 years of service with the Devil Rays. Over his two year span wearing the #60, Zambrano earned 3 saves and 14 wins in 165.1 innings of service.
Jonny Gomes was originally drafted in the 18th round of the 2001 draft, and made his debut in 2003 wearing the #60. Gomes only was able to play in 13 games where he racked up 3 hits, 1 double and 1 RBI.
So, I turn to you Rays fans. Who was, to date, the greatest player to wear #60?

Is the poll the best player to wear #60 (and vote based just on what he did while wearing #60) or best player overall who wore #60 at one time while with the Rays? Comparing Zambrano to Gomes, the Z man had the most success while wearing 60 but overall in their Devil Rays career, someone might think Gomes had the most success overall. Or is the vote subject to interpretation?
Fair question.
The poll is about who played the best, in your opinion, while wearing the particular number. I will try a little harder to make it a lot more clearer for my future polls. I do think votes are going to Jonny Gomes because people are thinking of his career, in comparison to Zambrano’s. But, it’s the Draysbay.com’s bloggers opinion. Like a good former bartender I just serve the questions up and I don’t judge on the answers.

GOMES
(my caps make my argument for me), both did a lot one more so by being traded, but both will be a part of D-Ray/Ray history for the next 20 years at minimum.
