OTTOTD 11/19: LOL @ AL Davis and the Raiders Edition

The Bruce is loose!

Star-divide

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders benched former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell on Wednesday, handing the starting job to journeyman Bruce Gradkowski for the foreseeable future.

<!--NEW:-->

Gradkowski Gradkowski

Coach Tom Cable made the announcement of the change following practice as the Raiders (2-7) prepare to play the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Cable said this was not a temporary move, that his plan is to stick with Gradkowski.

Gradkowski is 17 for 30 for 163 yards and two interceptions as a backup in Oakland this season. He tried to lead a comeback last week against Kansas City before his pass in the final minute deflected off receiver Heyward-Bey's hands and knees before being intercepted by Mike Brown around the 10-yard line to seal a 16-10 win for the Chiefs.

"I thought last week there were some good things and definitely some things to learn from," Gradkowski said before the decision was announced. "All we can do is keep working and get better."

Gradkowski got limited practice time with the first team for most of the season as the Raiders worked on developing Russell. He got a few more chances last week and now will get the bulk of the time with the first team. He expects that to be a big help this week against the Bengals.

Oh, and I want Brett Favre to win the MVP AND come back next year.  Feel free to light me up.

May as well seek opininons on 2010 RB splits for the following teams as well

Bills, Skins, Fins, Browns, Chiefs, Giants, Jets, Cards, SD, Carolina, Texans, Raiders, Saints, Seattle

Theres a lot of unsettlement with a few days left until our trade deadline. If we trade in the offseason you are bound to resign the players you trade for. If we trade this week, you have the option to release prior to July 31

Bruce Gradkowski is a man's man

If you got a problem with that maybe you want to go outside and chug a beer and arm wrestle.

Can't tell who that is, but it looks like William Regal being a prick.

Per Wiki
Regal was not seen on WWF television again until he returned that fall with a “Real Man’s Man” builder/lumberjack style looking gimmick that was based on the image of The Brawny Man.4 Vignettes for the character showed him doing “manly” things like chopping wood, shaving with a plain razor, and squeezing his own orange juice. After he made his full-time debut in October 1998, he faced X-Pac in the opening round of the tournament for the vacant WWF Championship at the Survivor Series,4 ending in a double countout and thus eliminating both men from the tournament. Regal then began a feud with The Godfather, but was taken off television soon after before subsequently checking into rehab in January 1999 and was released from the WWF in April.2

Have you tried breaking those numbers down by quarter?

I can’t remember the last time that we ran the ball in the 4th quarter. It goes without saying that the defense should be more tired in the 4th than they are in the 1st. Maybe just take a look at attempts by quarter, but I can imagine it being a negative correlation.

by Andy Hellicksonstine on Nov 19, 2009 10:51 AM EST up reply actions

I haven't looked at that, but mainly because for most of the 4th quarters this year

we’ve been down which leads to throwing it more anyways. It would be tough to draw any conclusions from the 8 minutes or so in the 4th that we’ve had the lead

I didn't say anything about the lead

It’s a definite factor into why our running numbers are so low. We haven’t had the lead, which means we haven’t consistently ran the ball, which is exactly my point. Who’s the best Adj. Line Yds running team in the league? I’ll take a look at them too, though it’s going to take some time to upload all of the data.

Best ALY are as follows

Dallas, New Orleans, Baltimore, Miami, Atlanta all over 4.43 ALY.

best rushing offenses based on DVOA. Jax, Dal, NO, Balt, Miami

before last week we were averaging 23.5 runs a game, good for 27th in league.

Alright, for whatever it is worth here are the numbers

Q Runs Yards Avg
1 61 223 3.66
2 49 205 4.18
3 36 120 3.33
4 30 125 4.17

by Andy Hellicksonstine on Nov 19, 2009 1:16 PM EST up reply actions

Ha, you can just see the logic now

Q1 – “We’re still in this game”
Q2 – “We’re only down a score”
Q3 – “Down 2 scores, better amp up the run game”
Q4 – “Screw it, we lost, might as well get a few runs in to increase the ole YPC”

I think it has more to do with a team being worn down at the end of the halves

Against the Giants and Carolina we did not run the ball once in the 4th quarter.

How did you guys get an interview with Friedman? Do you know someone in the FO?

Just curious as to how it was set up. Pretty cool you guys are able to have that kind of access.

I've got a good tip that on Tuesdays you can find Raheem in the ball pit at Chuck E. Cheese

He might have a few mins if you buy him a slice or introduce him to Chuck.

Wait, thats not true. He has a great arm and can breakdown a defense. Hold on, thats not true either. I got it. He plays with grit and determination. There you go.

So looking online...

It’s cheaper to live in downtown Tampa over downtown St. Pete.

Are my observations correct?

I was looking at some of the floorplans of the new SkyPoint building in Tampa.

It’s not the best looking building but the plans are nice and its in the “downtown art district” if you want to call it that.

Do those of you who work in an office setting have someone at work who just drives you bat crap crazy when they talk?

There are two people who work in cubes by my office that make me want to slam my head into a plate glass window everyday.

I'm choosing to go with Assassin's Creed with Bulls/Lakers on my computer and if it gets interesting

switch on over. Don’t care for the football game (no Ronnie Brown/Wildcat) and first basketball game sucks. Might have Jazz vs. Spurs on my computer though.
