The ideal result would be for the Rays to leave – not to Tampa but to someplace like Dubuque. Then we could hope they have all winning seasons so they can pay the judgment for breach of lease. And that judgment shouldn’t be just for the loss of rent. It should be for all the hundreds of millions of dollars having that gang in St Pete was supposed to produce. After all, the whole idea was that baseball would make St Pete a “major league city” and would produce an economic bonanza. Obviously tens of thousands of people would travel miles to pay a couple of billionaires lots of money to watch a bunch of hometown millionaires play ball with a bunch of out of town millionaires in a ballpark the city paid half a billion dollars for. Surprise! The “hometown” millionaires don’t live here after all and the billionaire owner wants another half billion. Of course the Florida Progress CEO would chair the committee – no tax paying “regular” person would author such nonsense.
