Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

From 2005. But still, goes against any idea the Rays were receiving nearly a hundred mil from the bigger teams like some seem to believe.

Is that the claim?

Or are people claiming that the Rays are receiving $100+ million in total from MLB? Each team probably receives upwards of $30 million from MLB TV deals.

While $100 mil may be high, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Rays receive $75 million each year without doing anything on their own.

The claim was that teams like the Yankees were paying out $100 mill to teams like the Devil Rays.

So in that sense, it’s close to the truth. The Yankees are the only team like the Yankees, but there are a lot of low-payroll teams like the Devil Rays. So while the Rays weren’t ‘Recieving $100 million from the Yankees’, the Yankees were paying close to $100 to low-payroll teams.

It actually makes me pretty angry that the Yankees were essentially paying the whole of the Devil Rays Payroll before Sternberg got here, and even still during his first year. Is this team’s budget so thin that they can’t afford to fork over more then a handfull of million dollars out of their own pockets for a team payroll?

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

No, there have been numerous claims that

the teams get $80 million in their pockets before ever selling a ticket. Which is the argument for having a salary floor, which has been discussed.
