I consider them a wash. iPhone has too many missing features, while Droid runs on Motorola tech (blech), and is offered only through Verizon Wireless (who absolutely love robbing users of ‘features’ like non-DRM ringtones, wallpapers, applications, etc). It’s the #1 reason why I stay away from Verizon.

Dumping Kazmir’s salary and starting Meatballs Sonnanstine against the Boston Red Sox during the most crucial part of the playoff run was how I rememebr the Kaz trade shaking out. I doubt many of casual fans stuck around to watch Wade Davis after the white flag was raised and waved there. Or maybe all they caught was Davis’ 2.2 innings and 8 ER given up to Boston in his second outing. Not encouraging to a team that plays Boston 18 times a year.
Rodriguez is not a proven commadity, no matter how much upside you see in him. The road is littered with guys who can’t miss but did. Aki was not only a proven, popular guy but an above average 2nd baseman. The casual fans understand this was about finance, not about who the best guy to play second base was.
It is not what I want the RFO to do, it is what they need to do if they want to get people into the Trop. Stu’s comments about “true fans will understand this” are confrontational to fans. If I disagree with this move somehow I am less than a real fan?? Not a going get them lining up at the gate with that line. Saying this is how we do things, get used to it. Wait, I didn’t like that trade, and now you are telling me all I have to look forward to from your team are more trades I don’t like?? Yea, not going to have them standing in line for tickets with that comment either. Stu is obviously not of the you catch more flies with honey than vinegar school. He is used to giving orders and people obeying but it does not work that way with BB fans. You cannot order them to like how you do things and expect them to show up.
Like it or not the Rays need to get fans into the game and they need to get some PR spin going if they want to do so. Many more player meet and greets during and in the off season, and with the popular guys that have good name recognition mixed in with the less famous. Some community involvement in targeted areas. Keeping Stu from talking to the press. More and bigger contests to get people to enter. They need to focus on fun and positive Rays issues, and not allow just the salary dumps to be the news. If that is all people hear, that will be the focus on. They need to make the Rays the good guys, not the cheap guys. If they need to get a PR firm that specializes in that.

I can’t understand your bitterness. You guys in the Bay area are the luckiest fans in the country and you are talking about just watching high school and little league teams because the Rays are destined for mediocrity.
First of all, I think the Rays will be competitive. They have a great starting rotation and great young players. Getting Jesse Chavez helps to settle a weak bullpen.
I don’t live in the Bay area, but visit every couple of years. You fans in Tampa and St. Petersburg have a great stadium. Talk all you want about Busch Stadium or Turner Field, the Dome is the best.
I don’t have to worry about parking, I get great seats at the lowest prices. I am comfortable (Have you ever sat in St. Louis in mid-summer?) and I have good concessions and memorabilia at fairly decent prices.
You don’t appreciate what you have- a major league baseball team that looks great for the future in an area that is very great to be in. Certainly watch those amateur teams play, but don’t give up on the Rays!!

Gomez can play on my team any week
They have plenty of bats, both now, and on the way. Getting a monster defensive CFer allows them to cut ties with Cameron (not sure why they never liked him, maybe it’s the K’s) and get Escobar in the lineup. I’d like to see Escobar struggle right out of the gate so that we can ship Barty over there in May. J. J. should be a good fit for the Twins whether the bat comes back or not.

I agree with what you're saying but Prince will be gone shortly and Braun is the only real bat they'll have.
I’m not totally sold on Gamel as an impact bat. So that’s CF, SS and probably 3rd that will be holes in the lineup. Maybe add 2nd to that next year if Weeks can’t come back from the wrist injury.

Lots of teams are willing to deal starters for a SS who was sent to AAA because his offensive numbers were so poor.
