OTTOTD 11/9 - They're still the Succaneers to me edition

Things I liked about yesterday's game:

Calling the 32 yard Packer TD pass
Seeing the Defense finally sack up for once, and in the 4th quarter none-the-less
Freeman showing a considerable amount of poise when pressured
More interceptions
This team's special teams outside the field goal kicker are arguably the best in the league, and THEY won that game yesterday.

Things I didn't like

The announcing.  They did a piss-poor job yesterday calling the game.
14 points didn't come from the offense, and another 21 were practially given to them on excellent field position
The 3 headed monster apparently isn't a monster, nor does it have 3 heads (Graham)
No sacks until the 2nd half against the worse pass-protection in the league.
We still don't have a kicker

I wrote an article about it, but not much was different from yesterday's game to any other game they played.

- Defense gave up big play
- Couldn’t stop run
- Special teams had a big play (or two)
- No running game
- Missed some throws

But we had some things go our way. WR’s made some plays, the defense kept after the QB, Rodgers held the ball too long etc.

I disagree

They looked like a completely different team. Whether they got the sack or not they were pressuring Rodgers all game and the coverage was good enough that we didn’t need to worry about him having the time to rip off a big play. Jennings and Driver are very good receivers and they did nothing. The running game still gashed us pretty hard. I watched the game with my cousin who is a huge Pack fan. I was ripping on Ahman Green being on the field and they he gets a 20ish yard run. That’s inexcusable, but every time he dropped back A-Rodg had nothing doing and we didn’t have to blitz to get that pressure.

Special Teams was the player of the game yesterday, though I’m sure Freeman will get the game ball. Freeman looked very good extending plays and buying time and I really like his arm. After not seeing him play in college, the things that stuck out to me, were that his best skills cannot be taught. You can’t teach size & speed, nor arm strength. The one pick was kind of a floater, but he had been staring Stovall down for the past 3 series. Eventually the defense was going to key on him.

I liked D Ward getting more involved, there is no reason for him not getting at least as many reps as Caddy. We aren’t going to go on some Dungy-like tear in his rookie season, and we did get quite a bit lucky, but that was the best football that I have seen out of this team in a year. Thanks to GB’s awful OL for making it all possible.

I don't think our DL was any more dominant than any other game.

The stats look better, but look at how long Rodgers held the ball. Those sacks are on him, they have been all year. There were at least 3 sacks where you could count to 5 or higher before he was hit. The last two drives in the 4th quarter (before he threw the pick and before the last Hail Mary) he had time to quadruple clutch the ball before anything happened. I’ll take the sack. Rodgers misfired on 3 deep passes that could have changed the game. Rodgers looks like a gun shy rookie now, waiting for someone to be 3 steps open before he throws.

Special Teams did play well but how was this game different than the Carolina game, besides outcome. Both games included huge special teams plays, turnovers on both sides, the difference is Carolina stuck with the run and killed us, GB dropped back more and Rodgers couldn’t release it. I’m happy for the win, but I didn’t walk away thinknig that was a huge turnaround from any other game. We just converted the opportunities. We went for it on 4th down, against the Skins we kicked. We took our opportunities and made them count.

Your last couple of lines say it all, WE CONVERTED THE OPPORTUNITIES!!!!!!

That was something that we failed almost exclusively at in other games. I agree that they stopped running. They were rolling over us and gave it up after about the 10 minute mark of the 4th quarter. Rodg was holding on to the ball, but don’t you have to give some credit to the coverage on that? I thought Talib had a fantastic game. Tanard and Sabby look good back there. We still need 2 more great players on the line, but our waves of mediocrity eventually washed over Rodg. Bennett got a sack, Roy Miller got one. If Ruud could contain a running game even a little bit, our defense would look a lot better. Right now, he is the weak link in that defense. He’s a great cover LB, but he’s getting washed out, taking a bad angles, and generally getting abused in run-defense. A lot of that is interior lineman steam-rolling our tackle tandem, but that’s Ruud’s job. I’d love to see us plug Suh in there and see how that changes.

I know my last line said it all

The games have been very similar, but we made the opportunities count, is not as if they weren’t there in the Carolina or Washington game. Rodgers missed some open guys (particularly Jennings, who I was watching for fantasy reasons). He looks very timid the majority of the time. Don’t know if the early picks got to him or not.

The coverage was better, a lot better than we had seen, just be glad Rodgers can’t get rid of it.

I’m just happy that the INT return to the 6 and the kickoff return weren’t wasted. That’s whats been missing for years. Red zone opportunities becoming 6, not 3 points.

I think you have to give Freeman a lot of credit in that regard

We’ll see how he’s doing in about 4 games, when the league has had a chance to get a book on him, but we have a couple of not great teams left on our schedule. It’s amazing how with competence we could be looking at 3-4 wins after looking like a 0-win team all year.

Not hate per say

by SRQman on Nov 9, 2009 9:56 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Why is it boring?

I’m being serious. Too outdated? Majority of readers were not fans in early 90s?Poorly written? Looking for feedback on whether to continue them. VInny Castilla is almost done and will be published, but they can be a lot of work. I find them interesting to research and revisit, but I could do that anyway without writing on it.

Stuff I already know/ don't care about at this point.

I’m probably a bad person to ask because I’m bored with most stuff regarding baseball right now. Hot Stove gets me a little happy but most is rumors that won’t happen.

I like it, but you must admit, that some of the names are a lot less interesting

Maybe do a quick table of the dead-strings and really focus on the live strings.

I suppose

There is nothing interesting about Will Silverthorn for Julio Santana. I’m a sucker for Where Are They Now anecdotes such as CJ Henry being a redshirt freshman hoopster for the Jayhawks. I also find it fascinating to follow the string of the traded player. At a time when the Rays should have been creating long lasting strings, they were doing the exact opposite. I may start to focus only on the bigger names and just mention the Silverthorn’s in passing. Thanks for the feedback.

No problemo, please feel free to let me know in any of my writings where I can improve or different directions that might be worth exploring

I think your point about should have been making long strings is on point. You can see how they had virtually no evaluation, oversight, nor creativity, almost like all they did was throw cash at a problem.

I like them.

Mainly because I hadn’t ever considered trade strings and it’s interesting to see how it applies to “my” team

Maybe he just doesn't have a tan now

that he’s not out in the sun playing baseball 200 days a year. My dad (who’s about half Iriquois) is the same way. When he’s out in the sun regularly, he looks really dark, but if he stays inside for a couple months, he basically looks white.

This is much more important

METALLAGHER IS GOING TO PLAY WITH THE REAL GALLAGHER 12/10 IN ST. PAUL, MN. I’m thinking of making the drive because Metallagher is the fucking balls. I fully expect them to rip on Gallagher hard after he does his little set and for people to get sloppy and punched. Who else wants to go?

Whenever I'm watching a Nippon League game it feels like I'm playing baseball on NES

The horns just play some easy MIDI background music. Everyone throws either a fastball or a curveball, and I can only usually get through 3 innings.

Come and knock on our door…..

Come and dance on on our floor……
Take a step that is new…..
We’ve a loveable space that needs your face,
