This will not involve any FA's like Kiko or Escobar nor will it include a possible Burrell or Navi trade. This is more of a who would you have as your current 25 roster post.

C Kelly Shoppach or Dioner Navarro: I choose Shoppach but unfortunaley, they are kinda close and its probably better to decide after a month of them playing.
1B Carlos Pena - Locked in unless he gets hurt
2B Ben Zobrist? Sean Rodriguez? Reid Brignac I go with Zobrist.
SS Jason Bartlett
3B Evan Longoria....til 2016, thanks again Hinske
LF Carl Crawford - A contract year, man am I going to miss him.
CF B.J Upton - I will predict now that he FINALLY busts out this year, numbers like 280 AVG 26 HR 82 RBI
RF Matt Joyce - He can be Jason Werth one day, and I am thinking he plays weaker lefties at 1st with Kapler playing the tough ones and he eventually can become our everyday RF. The unlikely scenario has Zobrist here and S-Rod at 2B
DH Pat Burrell - Face it, no Aybar. S-Rod, etc, PTB is making 9 mil and will start

The bench:
Willy Aybar - a lock
Gabe Kapler - another lock
Dioner Navarro - Well, like I said this is with no trades, he wasn't give 2.1 mil to play for Durham
Sean Rodriguez or Reid Brignac? I LOVE Reid but S-Rod is prob the smarter choice as they try to make him 2010 Zobristt

If Joyce starts slow, which I hope he doesn’t, what are the chances of calling up DJ. I understand the arbitration clock and all, but if this is our year then do we call him up when needed or only after the date of being a super 2.

Zero chance that he comes up because Joyce isn't performing to standards

There’s Zobrist also, who can play the positions. I only see DJ coming up if there are two outfield injuries this season or after September. The first-choice backup OF would be Nando I’d think. I imagine they want to give DJ more time in AAA first.

just a thought

against RHP

2B- Brignac
RF- Zobrist
DH- Joyce

against LHP
2B- Zobrist
RF- Joyce
DH- Burrell

this gives Joyce AB’s every game and at the expense of platooning Brignac should play to the best advantage as far as offensive output and anytime Brignac is in the game I think defensively we become better.

That being said the idea of trading Burrell for anything that gets his salary off the books and potentially letting SRod DH works for me.

What about Kapler?

Burrell hit .202 vs left handed pitching in 2009 with 0 I said 0 HR’s. I have doubts Sean Rodriquez will make the 25 man roster if Pat is still here.

Dump PTB to anyone even if it costs the Rays a few million. Some NL team should want Pat for 4 or 5 million. Rays already paid Pat 2 million in advance. Let Sean Rodriquez take Pat’s roster spot. Pocket whatever cash is saved by trading Pat for possible deadline deals or 2011 season.

Kapler, Burrell and Puffy will all have spots anyways

Burrell – No one is taking his 9 mil
Kapler – they kept him to play LHP, not to be cut
S-Rod – His space is almost locked in as super utility, his only real competition is Brignac
