Today, we will talk about the Venezuelan Summer League Rays. The VSL Rays went 41-28 for the season in what is basically the first stop for any potential international signee who hails from the Venezuela. The VSL Rays actually went on to win the VSL Championship, taking 2 of 3 games from the favored VSL Pirates. Today, we will take a look at the pitchers.

Rules?  pitchers have to have played in at least 25 innings to qualify for the vote.  

Here is a list of all the pitchers who appeared this year for the 2009 VSL Rays:

Orlando Cabrera. 19 years old. Cabrera went 4-2 with a 3.92 ERA in 59.2 innings pitched and flashed a 1.21 WHIP.

Hector Aguilera. 19 years old. Aguilera went 6-0 with a 3.20 ERA in 50.2 innings pitched and showed a 1.30 WHIP.

Eduar Quinonez. 20 years old. Quinonez went 2-6 with a 6.10 ERA in 48.2 innings pitched and sported a 1.56 WHIP.

Reinaldo Lopez. 18 years old. Lopez went 1-1 with a 4.87 ERA in 44.1 innings pitched and fronted a 1.69 WHIP.

Ali Crespo. 19 years old. Crespo went 1-1 with a 2.91 ERA in 43.1 innings pitched and had a 1.27 WHIP.

Daniel Sanchez. 20 years old. Sanchez went 1-2 with a 6.87 ERA in 38 innings pitched and showed a 1.95 WHIP.

Wilmer Sabala. 18 years old. Sabala went 1-2 with a 3.11 ERA in 37.2 innings pitched and flashed a 1.49 WHIP.

Felipe Rivero. 18 years old. Rivero went 6-4 with a 3.74 ERA in 33.2 innings pitched, all relief, and showed a 1.49 WHIP.

Dennis Moya. 18 years old. Moya went 2-2 with a 4.22 ERA in 32 innings pitched and sported a 1.25 WHIP.

Eli Echarry. 17 years old. Echarry had a 1-2 with a 6.25 ERA in 31.2 innings pitched and had a 1.80 WHIP.

Luis Wilches. 18 years old. Wilches went 3-1 with a 3.10 ERA in 29.0 innings pitched and sported a 1.38 WHIP.

Joice Linares. 19 years old. Linares went 2-1 with a 4.82 ERA in 28 innings pitched and showed a 1.32 WHIP.

Joynerd Gonzalez. 17 years old. Gonzalez went 0-0 with a 4.39 ERA in 26.3 innings pitched and fronted a 1.27 WHIP.

Guillermo Salinas. 20 years old. Salinas went 3-1 with a 1.82 ERA over 24.2 innings pitched and flashed a .89 WHIP.

Hugo Duarte. 18 years old. Duarte went 1-2 with a 5.56 ERA over 22.2 innings pitched and showed a 2.03 WHIP.

Carlos Orasmo. 18 years old. Orasmo went 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA over 16.1 innings pitched and had a 1.10 WHIP.

Kevin Lopez. 20 years old. Lopez went 1-0 with a 2.81 ERA over 16 innings pitched and had a 2.00 WHIP.

Raul Mayora. 21 years old. Mayora went 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA over 16 innings pitched and fronted a 1.63 WHIP.

Ricardo Montilla. 20 years old. Montilla went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA over 6.0 innings and sported a 1.00 WHIP.

Danmar Salazar. 17 years old. Salazar went 0-1 with a 15.43 ERA over 2.1 innings and shined with a 4.29 WHIP.

Lopez is the one for whom I've heard good things about his stuff

At this level, performance isn’t really too important. Of course, you barely hear anything about the guys at this level.

to try to bring some of these other guys to the forefront, try to help Rays fans become a little more familiar with the farm systems.
