Tampa Bay Rays Release Ramon Ramirez

Topkin's Twitter.

All that wondering about his change-up for naught. That puts the 40-man roster at 39. The Rays usually don't make moves just for the fun of them. We'll see what this leads to; waiver claim, Gregg Zaun, or something -- if anything -- else.

Wouldn't surprise me if the brought Ramirez back on a minor lg deal

More interesting is reason for the empty roster spot. Would probably signify a signing. Could be clearing space for a Rule 5 pick, but that’s next week.

Also if it's a waiver claim and the Rays have been awarded a player

They wouldn’t be able to announce that until after 2pm. Since there has been no offical release on Ramirez, they could be waiting for the other shoe to drop to roll out a presser.

Probably a lot of people. Most players put on waivers

never become public unless a claim is made or a team announces it. Claims happen all the time, but only in certain cases does something actually happen.

It could be a claim, a signing, trade, or nothing. Although, I’m not sure why they would just release a player just because.

I don't understand it either, unless

It’s understood by both sides that he won’t accept. I just don’t see someone paying him 1.5 on the open market, but could be wrong. It would be a mistake in my opinion for him to decline.

He is also 41 and could retire. So there's that.

Maybe he’s conveyed that to the Rays and they offered the arb on the off chance he changes his mind and signs with a team later.

I think this looks pretty decent

1. Bartlett SS
2. Crawford LF
3. Bradley DH (still think its gonna happen eventually)
4. Longoria 3B
5. Pena 1B
6. Zobrist 2B/RF
7. Joyce/Rodriguez 2B/RF
8. Shoppage/Zaun (versus tough RHP)
9. Upton CF

Obviously, I still think the Burrell for Bradley trade is going to happen once the Cubs realize that they have no other options and work out the details with the Mets for a Burrell for Castillo swap.

Im also much more in favor of a Zobrist/Joyce/Rodriguez platoon in 2B and RF. Id rather keep Kapler as a forth outfielder, pinch hitter type who can spell Crawford time to time

Its also a shame to think of Upton starting the year batting 9th, but I think he needs to prove otherwise. Even then, Bartlett did a phenominal job out of the lead off spot last year, So at best, Upton could move up to the 7 hole.

But

he has an 1-1 record with a 3.03 ERA- HOW COULD YOU RELEASE HIM FriedmaN?

Why do you kill threads????

I'll take a pouch of Big League Chew at this point

He can still become a good player, but he needs to be motivated properly and to bet his round-ass into shape. What if we included him in the Burrell for Bradley swap if the Cubs were willing to eat the entire 12M of the second year?

I'm a writer.
