Woot! Thanks RJ.

So I posted this on the Halladay thread, but with 300+ posts it probably got lost.

The Bravos will be looking to unload Soriano after he accepted arb. I’d imagine his arb. figure will be a little north of the $6 mill he got last year. Anyone think he might be a guy we’d have interest in?

What about a possible Burrell for Soriano swap?

by rglass44 on Dec 8, 2009 9:51 AM EST reply actions

I'd be all for that, but knowing some people around the Braves

They don’t want any part of Burrell.

Yes. One said he thought he was toast.

Although, they definitely weren’t expecting Soriano or Gonzo back.

by R.J. Anderson on Dec 8, 2009 10:00 AM EST up reply actions

So would you trade for Soriano, though?

The salary is kinda scary in the BP, but I imagine he’d be cheap to acquire talent-wise. I’d almost be willing to flip Aybar back to them.

by rglass44 on Dec 8, 2009 10:02 AM EST up reply actions

Not suprised there.

How bad would an OF of McLouth in CF and Burrell in LF be?

by rglass44 on Dec 8, 2009 10:01 AM EST up reply actions

Why I never realized there's a Rays blog on SB Nation..

is beyond me. Hope it’s as lively as the Iowa Hawkeyes blog. Anyway, I really want to see any major trades. I like the group we have, and even Burrell, I don’t want to see traded for someone else. No more high salary guys, please.

by TAMPAHAWK on Dec 8, 2009 9:57 AM EST reply actions

Correction

Don’t* want to see any major trades

by TAMPAHAWK on Dec 8, 2009 9:57 AM EST reply actions

Thanks!

It’s understandable. Offseason and all. I’m actually from Saint Petersburg, not Tampa, but no one back home knows where St.Pete is, hence TampaHawk

by TAMPAHAWK on Dec 8, 2009 10:01 AM EST up reply actions

WEAK.

St. Pete > Tampa, by a wide margin. Gotta represent.

I favor Mayweather by a pretty substantial margin

But then again, I favored Hoya to beat Pacquiao, and I thought Hatton and Cotto would be close fights. I think it will be a close fight through about 6, and then Mayweather will pull away. Pac’s reach is just too short to connect with someone that much longer than him and elusive on a regular basis.

I wonder who the Yanlks have their eye on.

There must be someone because they picked up the Nats number 1 pick in the Bruney deal.

What the hell are the Nats doing giving him 2 years? Oh yeah, they’re the Nats.

Crawford-Quentin
Sources with Tampa Bay and the Sox said the sides had talked several times this offseason, not only checking out closer Bobby Jenks and his availability in a deal, but more specifically a trade that would have sent Carlos Quentin to the Rays for Carl Crawford.

I think that would be a pretty decent deal.

Without crunching any numbers. Cruz has like 3 years of cost control left, and he’s a 3-4 win player it seems, CC has one, and he’s a 4-5 win player.

by R.J. Anderson on Dec 8, 2009 10:35 AM EST up reply actions

I'd do it if it wasn't for my mancrush on CC.

My mancrush on CC is probably ruining his knees though.

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

Would he really get more as a FA?

Officially now the head of the Lobstein bandwagon.

by P Brady on Dec 8, 2009 10:39 AM EST up reply actions

That's what I was thinking. If the Twins want him, OK, but if they were just fishing for draft picks, this is stupid.

And even then, if they wanted him, offering him arbitration seems pretty stupid since they probably could have saved a mil or more by just letting him get to FA.

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

by kericr on Dec 8, 2009 11:35 AM EST up reply actions

A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush

Pavano fits in well to their philosophical approach. He can slot in as a number 2-3. I saw Phil Humber pitch in Rochester last year and he won’t be a ML option, much like everyone else at Rochester. Their upper-level farm is pretty depleted right now. I like the move, personally.

I'm a writer.

by Andy Hellicksonstine on Dec 8, 2009 11:40 AM EST up reply actions

They love crappy, middling starters.

It’s like their MO. Can he miss bats? Not really. Great. Does he pump the strike-zone? Great. Sign him up.

by rglass44 on Dec 8, 2009 11:50 AM EST up reply actions

Baker is probably the most underrated pitcher in the AL

He’s pretty good. I’d like to see them re-sign Crede, with JJ at SS, and any number of all-glove, no-hit options at 2B they would be set to have a pretty good infield, defensively at least.

I'm a writer.

I don't think that's quite what he meant.

Also, I’d guess he probably doesn’t need to be linked to the ‘avoid ban’ post, since he clearly knows how to navigate a web forum.

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

by kericr on Dec 8, 2009 11:29 AM EST up reply actions

The damning quote:
A couple of hours later, foxsports.com headlined a report that wasn’t just incorrect but, in a word, preposterous: that the Rays would consider giving up two premium young players to get one year of Halladay. (Plus, they’d have to add his $15.75 million salary to their already strained payroll of just more than $60 million.)

Perhaps, and I’m must you know, throwing it out there, but perhaps attendance might raise just a tad on nights when Halladay pitches.

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

by kericr on Dec 8, 2009 11:33 AM EST up reply actions

I don't think acquiring Halladay is as far-fetched as they make it out to be.

While I know that type of trade isn’t in our m.o., I think it could work with the right combination of players. I’d be curious if Halladay would give the Rays a small hometown discount on a 3-year deal.

by FLBoy84 on Dec 8, 2009 11:46 AM EST up reply actions

The 3 year deal I doubt would happen.

Regardless of price, because I’d think Halladay would want something longer.

If I could take cost out of the equation, I wouldn’t even blink at signing him to a 6 year contract. That arm is never falling off. He’ll be able to pitch until he can’t throw for velocity anymore.

I can't wait until we trade him for a reliever.

Just to add a little intrigue, ESPN’s Buster Olney says “one idea raised” was the Yankees getting both Granderson and Jackson

His brain is his only worthwhile part

He hasn’t hit like an AL-avg catcher in 3 seasons. He’s probably an average defensive catcher, at best.

Kay so
ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark reports that the Rays haven’t backed off on a possible Milton Bradley deal, even though talks with the Mets involving Pat Burrell are now dead. Money is currently the biggest obstacle between the two clubs and a deal. Two or three new teams have apparently expressed interest in Bradley since the meetings began this morning.

Two or three teams???

Why do you kill threads????
