OF Matt Joyce is sidelined for at least a few days with a sore right calf, though he does not expect it to be a lingering injury. "It's a little bump in the road,'' he said. "I don't think it's anything to really be worried about. It's nothing major. I'll be out there in a couple days.

Also Wade Davis and Jeff Niemann were named starters for this weeks games.

Fast forward three weeks

“with the calf injury preventing him the ABs he needs, he’ll get to play every day at Durham”

Honestly

A long look at the roster shows him going to Durham is nearly a foregone conclusion.

And this is not a problem

Saves the team money, gets him some extra seasoning, gives the Gabe platoon an opportunity to prove itself. Worst case scenario, Joyce is our starting RF April 2010.

Bleh

Brad Ziegler had a scoreless inning streak. Brad Ziegler had not met BJ Upton.

If the injuries can stop with this, that would be plesant.

Look on the side

Rotoworld still thinks Joyce is this years RF, I have seen them mention Price basically being a lock also. I wish but Joyce is near impossible and as of now Price is still unlikely

Not even counting Percival

1. Navarro
2. Riggans/Hernandez
3. Pena
4. Aki
5. Aybar
6. Bartlett
7. Zobrist
8. Longoria
9. Kapler
10. Gross
11. BJ
12. C.C.
13. Burrell

14. Kazmir
15. Garza
16. Sonny
17. Shields
18. Wheeler
19. Balfour
20. Howell
21. Nelson
22. Shouse
23. Nelson

That leaves Hammell, Price, Niemann, ,Talbot, Cormier, Rodriguez, Isringhausen, and Joyce/Kennedy/Perez (if they opt for only 11 pitchers) battling it out for 2 roster spots…One once Bradford comes back…Maybe an additional opening if the option Zobrist again.

Tough decisions to make. Good problems to have.

Although I certainly wish it but

Injuries especially to Gross change Joyce’s outlook big time

Btw, you mention Nelson, my prediction is

1. Navarro
2. Riggans
3. Pena
4. Iwamura
5. Aybar
6. Bartlett
7. Longoria
8. Crawford
9. Upton
10. Gross
11. Kapler
12. Zobrist
13. Burrell

14. Kazmir
15. Shields
16. Garza
17. Sonny
18. Price (yes I believe)
19. Shouse
20. Nelson
21. Wheeler
22. Howell
23. Balfour
24. Niemann
25. Isringhausen

Interesting to think about

With Aybar able to play any IF position if needed and Gross AND Kapler able to play any OF position if they need to…..maybe Zobrist isn’t such a lock.
