After hearing Stu's comments today on payroll, the Rays have reached their current financial peak. It even seems as if they've propped up a ladder that they may or may not be able to support. As the Rays continue to grow (as their payroll), the question comes, where will the revenue come from?
Obviously butts in the seats are the primary source of income. But my question is, is there more to be had in tv revenue? For the last couple years the Rays have been trying to expand their fan base, especially in Orlando. Now the Rays have set themselves up in Port Charlotte in a very lovely spring training facility. While the Rays are expanding their exposure, how much potential is their for larger tv revenue? Is this a viable source of additional income?
If the Rays also make it to the post-season this year, the Rays should see a very sizable attendance increase in each of the next two seasons. But is that the only major source of additional income? Just wanted to see if anyone could shed more light on this or offer up additional comments.
