synoposis of the Rays and Yankees '08 seasons....

'talkin 'bout practice?
by CubFanRaysaddict on Feb 26, 2009 11:11 AM EST reply actions
Anxious to see Thayer and Orvella
and if Ensberg has anything left
Thayer is good
Orvella… I haven’t seen him pitch in a while. I don’t know what to expect out him. Though, he is the designated first pitch catcher and home run fist pounder.

I'm really interested to see how Orvella comes out this spring
He has always had one of the better fastball/change-up combination in the minors but never could make it work mentally in the majors. Hopefully not really playing last year helped him get his mind right. While it may not be this year or with the Rays, I think Chad is going to make a serviceable reliever one day.
When I went to practice
he seemed to be throwing it well. I didn’t have a gun or anything but it had a nice pop.
Swav or Die.
How did Beckham and Nowak look?

Beckham looked good.
When he hit it would make a different sound. There would be times he would look really bad though when he missed.
Nowak did not look bad but nothing epic.
Swav or Die.
Thanks!
Anyone that you saw, pitcher or hitter, that impressed you?

Riggans was having a real good day when I was there.
He almost hit Hendrick who was throwing BP and was hitting it hard.
Beckham like I said would look good.
Joyce seemed to hit it well when I was there and Brignac was making good swings.
Shouse became one of my favorites to watch pitch when he snatched a come backer.
All that I remember right now.
Swav or Die.
all you remember?
Party too hard with at Port Charlotte club?

Meh
I was mostly just walking around. The pitchers could all field the ball well except Garza who didn’t attempt a shot hit at him when he was playing 1b.
Evan and Carlos play fungo golf after practice.
CC looked fast, Upton was hitting before they were on the field (in the cage with Henderson)
The main pitchers you couldn’t really see much because the pens are too far to see.
Swav or Die.
Interesting.

Chad was AWESOME when he first came up in '05
Then it looked like Maddon and Hickey messed with Chad’s mechanics, like Chris Mason, and with that led to uncomfortable innings. After ‘o5 he didn’t look like the same pitcher on the mound.

He does have a bit of a beard going.
And the bat screams gritty.

I'm going to this one.
Last game I went to at Legends Field was the famous Elliot Johnson affair, although I remember it better as David Price’s glorious debut.
I was at the game yesterday
The new stadium is nice and the game…I got a tan.

I bought two tickets to this game, my wife couldn't get out of work so I gave my
tickets to a newlywed couple who are Rays fans.
This should be fun to see what Kennedy can do. Anyone know what radio station this game will be on?

There starting line-up doesn't look intimating anymore.
I remember in 01-03 just looking at their line-up and going “shit there just isn’t a weak link.” Now, not so much.

Tex doesn't scare me, maybe because I have seen him so much in his Texas days
A-Rod, I have seen choke more then an armature in a Conney Island Hot-dog eating contest, so he doesn’t scare me. Molina’s speed is great for a statue, but he has a great arm.

In the name of Shinji Mori, we shall win!
by thebaddancingraysfan on Feb 26, 2009 12:16 PM EST up reply actions
Not burned too badly
The stadium is nice…I love the tiki bar. Plus you can stand right above the bullpen. I got to stand 5 feet from Balfour as he threw before the game.
Traffic was pretty poor. I got there about 2 hours early and still waited 30 minutes to drive less than one mile. I imagine it was a lot worse for the people that showed up later. If you’re going, save the frustration and get there as early as possible.
by steve-o1285 on Feb 26, 2009 12:23 PM EST up reply actions
I had no problems
Bathrooms were large and not overly crowded, there were enough concessions to keep me from waiting more than 5 minutes for food/drink. There’s one large team store near home plate, but there are plenty of places set up along the lines with hats/shirts/cards/etc.

Did you try to talk to you Balfour?
If so, did it sound like this:
Steve: Hey Balfour?
Balfour: Fuck yeah?
Steve: How yeah feelin?
Balfour: Fuckin’ A!
Steve: Have a great game!
Balfour: Fuck yeah!

I'm not one of those guys who tries to talk to the players
Because I know in his head, he would be thinking, “Sit the fuck down!”
by steve-o1285 on Feb 26, 2009 12:35 PM EST up reply actions
I would love to make a spoof of the "Mean Joe Green" commercial
But have Balfour instead.
Kid: Hey Balfour?
Balfour: The fuck?
Kid: Great game.
Balfour: (muttering under his breath.)
Kid: Have my coke.
Balfour: Fuck yeah!
The kid walks away with his head down
Balfour: Hey kid!
Balfour picks up a ball
Balfour: Catch
The ball knocks the kid out cold on the floor.
