At least the audio seems to be working today

It crapped out against the Reds

Maybe the audio was being run by Choate.

That might explain the crapping out.

haha, quite possibly

Btw are Pena and Joyce alive or should their families be notified?

You didn't get the memo?

their funeral will be on Tuesday. The after party will be @ Denny’s where you can get a free grand slam!

No in all serious, i would rather have a healthy Pena and see what Joyce has to offer rather then the two men stinking it up and hurting themselves more. I mean, Pena’s assets are frozen so this is the only income he will have for a while, he better play well or it’s back to working at Dairy Queen!

In the name of Shinji Mori, we shall win!

Ah, I just thought they would be healthy by now

he hasn’t hit big league pitching yet at all, plate appearances notwithstanding

by yeseggs on Feb 27, 2009 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

Oh, right.

I forget that players should be hitting major league pitching in Tripe-A or something. You’re right.

by R.J. Anderson on Feb 27, 2009 3:21 PM EST up reply actions

I agree with both of you.

I don’t like it when people act like Bartlett is an easily replaceable cog, but we also shouldn’t write off Brignac yet. He still should get plenty of oppurtunties to prove himself

by Sveet on Feb 27, 2009 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

Well should we start a pool on which AB he gets his first hit

I’d but 2 bucks on 38th

Why yes, I am this big of an asshole in person.

by Sandy Kazmir on Feb 27, 2009 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

Brignac is 22 and his calling card is his defense.

I’m hopeful his offense comes around and there’s no guarantees it does, but Jason Bartlett is hardly irreplaceable.

by R.J. Anderson on Feb 27, 2009 3:22 PM EST up reply actions

I don't believe I said he was irreplaceable

What encouraging signs have you seen when you view him with your eyes. Stats can go out the window due to S^3, but he is clearly over-whelmed. On the bright side, if you are an all glove-no stick player, SS is a great position to do it.

Why yes, I am this big of an asshole in person.

by Sandy Kazmir on Feb 27, 2009 3:25 PM EST up reply actions

What constitutes consistent?

Being an all stick-no glove one year, all glove-no stick guy 2 years later, would hardly lead me to use the word consistent, his one good year at the plate was in a hitters park, but sure he could come around

Why yes, I am this big of an asshole in person.

by Sandy Kazmir on Feb 27, 2009 3:27 PM EST up reply actions

Consistent =/= track record?

Why yes, I am this big of an asshole in person.

by Sandy Kazmir on Feb 27, 2009 3:28 PM EST up reply actions

Not what I meant.

In the past he’s been good offensively, last year he was apparently good defensivley and poor offensively. 2008 looks like an outlier, just like 2006 did. He’s most likely closer to 2007 in offense and defense.

But still, he’s 22, there’s no reason to take any of these spring or last July’s PAs as an indication of talent.

by R.J. Anderson on Feb 27, 2009 3:34 PM EST up reply actions

Fair enough

but you have to base your opinions on something, and using his stats from a hitters park and disregarding the more recent data seems foolhardy

Why yes, I am this big of an asshole in person.

by Sandy Kazmir on Feb 27, 2009 3:38 PM EST up reply actions

Are you saying we should get rid of Bartlett?

and let Brignac take over at short. B/C maybe I am missing your point

by Sveet on Feb 27, 2009 3:28 PM EST up reply actions

No?

I’m saying if the Rays had a chance to sell Bartlett for more than his actual worth, they should absolutely pursue it.

Just like with any other player on the roster.

by R.J. Anderson on Feb 27, 2009 3:29 PM EST up reply actions

That's not exactly a new philosophy

I mean the Rays are owned by a Jewish man

Why yes, I am this big of an asshole in person.

by Sandy Kazmir on Feb 27, 2009 3:31 PM EST up reply actions

Didn't his calling card used to be offense

Maybe I am thinking of someone else, but wasn’t he the one who everyone thought he would be able to hit well enough to play short but maybe not be able to stick there because of his D.

Now his D is his strong suit

by Sveet on Feb 27, 2009 3:27 PM EST up reply actions

yes and than he spent nearly all of his time becoming the best defensive SS in AAA last season

I know I’m a bigger fan of Brignac than most but I think that if get gets another year at AAA he will turn into an above average SS. He no longer has to use most of his energy working on defense and can spend some more time in the cages and working on his swing.

No thats great

I know I am in the minority, but I love great defense

I wonder who they will bring in

Zobrist is going to throw a couple of shut out innings

Dude is the best player in MLB that doesn’t have a starting gig

I know I didn't just hear "Zobrist" and "Best" in the same sentance

the only thing he’s good at is having a hot wife. Who likes Jesus, which makes it a moot point.

i want to know

the future of fernando perez with this team.

by yeseggs on Feb 27, 2009 3:33 PM EST reply actions

He will be really really

really really fast in the future

I could be wrong though

by staplemaniac on Feb 27, 2009 3:34 PM EST up reply actions

but whose

spot in the 25-man will he eventually take
and when

by yeseggs on Feb 27, 2009 3:35 PM EST up reply actions

My best guess: 4th OF spot in 2010

I don’t know the players contracts off-hand, but maybe perez-Joyce platoon in RF? Maybe takes over for CC when he leaves if DJ isn’t up yet?

I could be wrong though

by staplemaniac on Feb 27, 2009 3:37 PM EST up reply actions

hmm.

interesting ideas. food for thought.

by yeseggs on Feb 27, 2009 3:38 PM EST up reply actions

Joyce-Nando

would be very nice, maybe call them thunder and lightning, they could also come to the plate with ebony and ivory playing

idea:

ultimately trade CC and slot fernando in left?

by yeseggs on Feb 27, 2009 3:41 PM EST up reply actions

That's the Desmond Jennings 2011 plan I thought

One more injury though and it might be time to infuse his bones with adamantium
