Nice
Lineup is pretty good and I am excited to see almost all those pitchers
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
... And on the 27th day, let there be Shouse.

At least the audio seems to be working today
It crapped out against the Reds
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
Maybe the audio was being run by Choate.
That might explain the crapping out.

haha, quite possibly
Btw are Pena and Joyce alive or should their families be notified?
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
You didn't get the memo?
their funeral will be on Tuesday. The after party will be @ Denny’s where you can get a free grand slam!
No in all serious, i would rather have a healthy Pena and see what Joyce has to offer rather then the two men stinking it up and hurting themselves more. I mean, Pena’s assets are frozen so this is the only income he will have for a while, he better play well or it’s back to working at Dairy Queen!

I wish we had like 50 spots but we don’t
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
Going by nothing, I would have the current standings out
Jeff Niemann – I think the favorite to start the Spring and did very well in first start
David Price – no action yet but he’s Price
Jason Hammel – His lack of options may save him
Wade Davis – Not gonna happen but fun idea
Mitch Talbot – We’ll, lets see how he does tomorrow

If it's Niemann vs. Price
Is it really much of a discussion?
RAYS BASEBALL: ALL YOUR BASES ARE BELONG TO US
yes
Unless Price can make his change a plus pitch, its Niemanns job. If he does, Price will win it.
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
*waits for R.J.*
The Rays seem to think he would be better suited for a relief role. Imagine having to face Niemann, Howell, Balfour after six or seven innings of Shields, Kazmir, Garza or Price
by Tommy Rancel on Feb 27, 2009 1:50 PM EST up reply actions
If we knew for sure that Niemann was > Sonny, then put Niemann in the rotation over him.
Unlike Edwin, there’s actually a shred of possibility that Niemann is better.

Brignac is 22 and his calling card is his defense.
I’m hopeful his offense comes around and there’s no guarantees it does, but Jason Bartlett is hardly irreplaceable.
by R.J. Anderson on Feb 27, 2009 3:22 PM EST up reply actions
I don't believe I said he was irreplaceable
What encouraging signs have you seen when you view him with your eyes. Stats can go out the window due to S^3, but he is clearly over-whelmed. On the bright side, if you are an all glove-no stick player, SS is a great position to do it.
Why yes, I am this big of an asshole in person.
by Sandy Kazmir on Feb 27, 2009 3:25 PM EST up reply actions
Being a 22-year-old SS in Triple-A with a decent track record of offense and defense.
by R.J. Anderson on Feb 27, 2009 3:26 PM EST up reply actions
What constitutes consistent?
Being an all stick-no glove one year, all glove-no stick guy 2 years later, would hardly lead me to use the word consistent, his one good year at the plate was in a hitters park, but sure he could come around
Why yes, I am this big of an asshole in person.
by Sandy Kazmir on Feb 27, 2009 3:27 PM EST up reply actions
Consistent =/= track record?
Why yes, I am this big of an asshole in person.
by Sandy Kazmir on Feb 27, 2009 3:28 PM EST up reply actions
Not what I meant.
In the past he’s been good offensively, last year he was apparently good defensivley and poor offensively. 2008 looks like an outlier, just like 2006 did. He’s most likely closer to 2007 in offense and defense.
But still, he’s 22, there’s no reason to take any of these spring or last July’s PAs as an indication of talent.
by R.J. Anderson on Feb 27, 2009 3:34 PM EST up reply actions
Fair enough
but you have to base your opinions on something, and using his stats from a hitters park and disregarding the more recent data seems foolhardy

Are you saying we should get rid of Bartlett?
and let Brignac take over at short. B/C maybe I am missing your point
No?
I’m saying if the Rays had a chance to sell Bartlett for more than his actual worth, they should absolutely pursue it.
Just like with any other player on the roster.
by R.J. Anderson on Feb 27, 2009 3:29 PM EST up reply actions
I think the disagreement is with expectations of Brignac.
And the weight of 11 MLB plate appearances and a handful of spring at-bats.

I never disagreed with that either
I totally agree with your assesment of Brignac. I think I stated that I agreed with that from the beginning

Why yes, I am this big of an asshole in person.
by Sandy Kazmir on Feb 27, 2009 3:31 PM EST up reply actions
Didn't his calling card used to be offense
Maybe I am thinking of someone else, but wasn’t he the one who everyone thought he would be able to hit well enough to play short but maybe not be able to stick there because of his D.
Now his D is his strong suit
yes and than he spent nearly all of his time becoming the best defensive SS in AAA last season
I know I’m a bigger fan of Brignac than most but I think that if get gets another year at AAA he will turn into an above average SS. He no longer has to use most of his energy working on defense and can spend some more time in the cages and working on his swing.
With Cromer in, the Rays have used up all the scheduled pitchers
I wonder who they will bring in
