2/28/09 World Series Rematch GDT: Rays @ Phillies
Game Time: 1:05 PM
TV/Radio: MLB Network & MLB Network HD; 620 AM
Lineup:
- Gabe Kapler RF
- Justin Ruggiano CF
- Willy Aybar 2B
- Pat Burrell DH
- Chris Richard 1B
- Morgan Ensberg 3B
- Ray Sadler LF
- Shawn Riggans C
- Ray Olmedo SS
Starter: Mitch Talbot P Other pitchers scheduled: J.P. Howell, Lance Cormier, Dewon Day, Neal Frontz
To watch:
Mitch Talbot pitches for the second time this week, but his first start of the spring. Let's hope he follows in the steps of fellow Rays starters: Carlos Hernandez, Wade Davis and Jeff Niemann who've combined for six innings of shutout ball.
Lance Cormier is battling for the final bullpen spot. J.P. Howell makes his first and maybe last appearance for the Rays before heading to the World Baseball Classic
Pat Burrell faces his former team for the first time.
R.J.'s spring crush, Ray Olmedo, makes the start at short stop.

Rematch?
Does that mean JC Romero will be pitching? If so, did JC take his “supliments?”

You do understand the
‘rules of engagement’ concening ST games and the home and road team?
Plus yesterday was the Friday of ST
I hope the team went out and got good and drunk after a fairly ordinary first week. Roll out the cannon boys, steal us some wine.
Why yes, I am this big of an asshole in person.
I think the Rays can sneak a win here.
It’s good to see where an Olmedo would fit in with the team, in terms of depth. I like him as a pick up. I like Ruggiano getting some at bats, which he deserves. I interested in seeing the organizational depth that is on display here. The Rays had A LOT of injuries last year. We had some guys step up big time for us. Will that happen again? Maybe. These guys that we have on the field might be the difference between1st place and 2nd place. Who knows?

I am interested to see if Talbot can step up.
Comier, can he bounce back from a HORRIBLE outing a few days ago. Frontz, he is for real or is he just dominated the weaker guys on the other side. Questions, questions, questions!

On the upside the game will be on MLB Network
So, we don’t have to watch a stolen feed of a YES telecast and have a guy switch the channel to a Mets game.

Why do the Mariners hate their players?
Adrian Beltre gave up his apartment, was ready to leave for the World Baseball Classic tomorrow and then got the news – the Seattle Mariners had made the decision for him and he won’t be going, after all.
I think there should more clubs that would allow their stars
the opportunity to play in WBC. I also wish that players who play for Italy, could actually speak Italian fluently.

Alright I love this lineup, get some exposure for our trade bait today
I could see Ray Olmedo in Jays jersey before the end of the month!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo
Why yes, I am this big of an asshole in person.
Here I thought that MLB network would actually present their own broadcast team
Instead, we get another stinging reminder that while Rays fan support has grown, our team still doesn’t have a network agreement for their spring training games.
nm audio seriously delayed

Aybar with some defensiuve wizardry there
Any real 2B and that would have been an out
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Not at all
The ball beat Rollins to the bag by quite a bit, the receiver fumbled it and turned the wrong way, so he didn’t get the out.
Vogt early, Vogt often.

Somewhere Price, Niemann and Hammel are smiling
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
FYI, this is normal for Talbot
He has had some absolutely disasterous outings in the minors.
www.raysprospects.com
And he also has some awesome outings.
There’s also the idea that he’s working on his sinker this outing.
by R.J. Anderson on Feb 28, 2009 1:26 PM EST up reply actions
I don't think he is THIS bad
Just takes him forever to get ready for the majors I think
but jesus, Cairo
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
To me, Blanton looks more powerful than Cairo
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
Right, he's not this bad
I’m just saying, more than any other prospect I’ve followed, Talbot has had a lot(relative to others) or short 1 or 2 inning outings where he just didn’t have it and gave up a ton.

Phillies Batters: Hit it into LF for home runs
Elliot Sadler: I get it!
Justin Ruggiano: DUH I LIEK GROUNDURS
I like these announcers.
When Kendrick gives up a homer: “Just a spring training game, plus he’s working on his slider.”
But Mitch Talbot isn’t working on anything, he’s treating this like a regular season game. Right.
Announcer said earlier that he didn't know anything about Talbot.
All he had to go off of was a basic scouting report.
He still has time to make himself look good this Spring
but his lack of options or being Price makes him a distant 4th
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
Talbot has options.
And seriously, there was no way Mitch Talbot was starting the season as our fifth starter. Neither is Carlos Hernandez. It’s Jeff Niemann or David Price, and that means it’s almost certainly Jeff Niemann.
by R.J. Anderson on Feb 28, 2009 1:37 PM EST up reply actions
Unless they just really, really want Niemann to jump into the bullpen, can't see it.
by R.J. Anderson on Feb 28, 2009 1:38 PM EST up reply actions
I don't get it.
From what I’ve seen based on the analysis on this site: Hammel’s a better starter then a reliever, and Niemann’s a better reliever then a starter.
Numbers game.
If Percival/Isringhausen are healthy, that means one of Niemann/Hammel are out of luck, and there’s no way it’s Niemann.
Nelson
Shouse
Percival
Wheeler
Howell
Balfour
Isringhausen
Throw in Cormier too.
by R.J. Anderson on Feb 28, 2009 1:42 PM EST up reply actions
Now I thought that Izzy was signed specifically as an insurance policy to Percival
But if that’s the case, yeah I see what you mean.
are we going to see percy and izzy duke it out this spring
for the closer’s role?
If not, then Cormier v. Hammel.
I’m not sure who wins that one.
by R.J. Anderson on Feb 28, 2009 1:45 PM EST up reply actions
yeah i meant him having options makes him a distant 4th
I think if Price throws his change up well all Spring, he will win the job
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
Imp's right
Talbot is incredibly inconsistent. Basically, he’s either really good or really bad. There is no in between with him.
Hello.
He's going to have to lose that
He can’t be giving up moonshots to the Miguel Cairo’s of the Majors when he finally makes the show
Olmedo HR?
I think that would make up for Cairo
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
Question
Ton of “if’s” but humor me
Talbot just can’t find it – Very possible
Hammel is not good enough to make Maddon make a stupid decision – Almost definatley
Price cant fix the change – Possible
Maddon wants Niemann in the pen – I think this is very possible
ALL that happens, do you see Wade Davis having a shot?
Evan Longoria and David Price - the fight for my heart
Kapler needs to flex his biceps and scare Kendrick

From Wikipedia:
Perez went to Columbia University where he studied creative writing
How much do you get paid, RJ?
If you're serious.
The money I make from writing comes via FanGraphs, and I make the same amount within five days of writing on FG that I would for a month of SBN.

Speaking of douchebags.
Schilling, who has a career mark of 216-146, said money would not be a major issue. He’s looking for a team that has championship potential and has never won a title. “The challenge would be in a place like Tampa Bay or Chicago,” he said.

Buccaneers | Were looking to acquire Cutler from Denver
Sat, 28 Feb 2009 12:07:28 -0800Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers jumped in trying to get QB Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots. They then reached out to the Denver Broncos, looking to see if they could acquire QB Jay Cutler from the Broncos for Cassel if they were able to work a trade.
