Rays Add Winston Abreu
Another reliever added to the mix on a minor league deal.
He's 31-years-old, relies on a low-90's fastball and slider combination and generates a lot of flyballs. Abreu gets a good number of strikeouts and swinging strikes however issues with homeruns have derailed him a bit over the years.

It seems like the Rays and Mariners are both trying to collect as many bullpen arms as they can to duke it out in ST for roster spots.
Which I just don't understand
Already under contract and out of options:
Grant Balfour
JP Howell
Troy Percival
Dan Wheeler
Joe Nelson
Chad Bradford
Brian Shouse
Lance Cormier
Jason Hammel
Jeff Niemann
Derek Rodriguez (Rule 5)
Plus there are another 5 or 6 guys who signed minor league deals with an invite, plus a few other good internal options on the 40-man roster. With this many arms, it’s almost a given that Price will start the year in AAA (pushing Niemann into the rotation) and that Percival and Hammel will be released, but even if that happens there’s STILL no room for anyone else.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Well maybe we're going to rest the starters for all but an inning throughout the entire ST. Gotta throw somebody out there and
since there is not a soul left on the wire people will have to trade something for these guys. People will come Brick, you’ll see.
Anyway, as I was lying in the puddle, I think I may have found a way for us to get Bonds and Griffey, and we wouldn't have to give up that much.

With Littlefield and Bavasi out of the league
I find it hard to believe there are any GMs would would be stupid enough to trade for Percival. I do think Hammel will get traded, but it will be in a deal of little to no consequence (i.e. we’ll get a C grade relief prospect in A-ball or something). Best case scenario in my mind is that we can trade Niemann to the Brewers, who desperately need another starter, for one of their catching prospects.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
^ Don't forget a starting rotation of Davis, Cummings, Talbot, and possibly Hellickson
Durham shouldn’t give up over 3 runs a game.
