Crisis Adverted: Eduardo Morlan Returns
Reportedly Morlan had lost velocity and gained pounds, a tried and true method towards developing a bust and becoming one too. Tommy talked Morlan in depth more yesterday. I'm certainly fine with adding another high strikeout reliever to the fold. Hopefully the conditioning and velocity issues don't become a constant, because by any measure Morlan performed fair enough in Montgomery and should start the season in Durham with a chance at cracking the major league bullpen sometime during the season.

After a year.....
This trade looks good.
Garza for Young alone would look good right now. Throw in JB and EM and we’ve got a steal.
A post about how Delmon came along last year would be interesting.

His bat slighly improved in the second half
Pre ASB .286/.330/.386
Post ASB .290/.345/.432
Still a sub .800 OPS corner outfielder. And if you look at the defensive metrics for 2008, he was a worse left fielder than Adam Dunn, Raul Ibanez, Pat Burrell and Carlos Lee. All in all he was worth a negative 0.5 WAR and -2.4 million dollars.
Again, he’s only 23, but still average below average at this point. I don’t he’ll stay that way forever, but I’ll still take MFG.

Delmon Young is far more interesting than Edwin Jackson, yet nobody ever makes a fanpost on him.

His arm was one of the best things about 2007.

It was more accurate too

Morlan is surplusage at this point
But then again, so is Pridie, so we’re about even there.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
I feel a bit confused
When we lost him people seemed upset, and then they seemed OK with it… Was there divided opinion on this guy? Last I heard, people thought he was injured?
Andrew rolls the dice and wins again
although i don’t see him in MLB this year
Brewers tried to work out a trade
Dick Groch, special assistant to general manager Doug Melvin, told me the Brewers ran several names by the Rays, trying to work a deal, without success.
No way
A deal would have gotten done if they had offered any of those guys. Heck, a deal for Niemann would have gotten done for any of those guys.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
I expected your sarcasm-meter to be alot better than this....

I think his comment is sarcasm.
Given the idea that Niemann and Morlan would be enough for Escobar Gamel, or Salome.

so you wanna get hosed?
You don’t even ask for Jeremy Jeffries? And here I was, thinking you would know how to make decent trades.
