Update: X-Rays were negative.

Are you kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Going for x-rays. Says it should be fine but there are so many little bones in the hand to break. A Red Sox minor leaguer hit him.

Update

UPDATE, 3:22: The Rays say X-rays were negative and the injury doesn’t appear to be serious, but Upton will be examined further as a precaution on Sunday.

Disaster averted.

Still this is a set back and he’ll probably be held out for a couple days while any bruising and swelling goes down. This makes it less likely he’s ready for opening day. I have mixed feelings about that. I don’t want him to push it and hurt his shoulder in the cold, but seeing anyone other than Bossman leading off opening day will make me sad.
