3/26/09 GDT: Rays @ Tigers
GT: 6:05.
Radio: WHNZ 1250
Spring training is a week and a couple of days from ending. It's been far too long.
Anyhow, Adam Kennedy in left, Matt Joyce in center, and Andy Sonnanstine on the hill.

rest of the lineup
Looks like the Rays B team vs. the Tigers A team. Hopefully Joyce can make the Tigers regret this trade.

"Matt Joyce in center"
Let’s hope he looks as good out there as anyone else. If he can play CF competently, I think that improves our lineup overall, and Zobrist can platoon with him against lefties if need be.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Zobrist needs to platoon with Carl against lefties though.

Joke I assume?
Joyce’s prior history indicates he’s probably a worse hitter against lefties (though last year was somewhat encouraging), and I’d be willing to bet there’s a larger gap in defensive ability between Crawford and Zobrist than there is between Joyce and Zobrist.
Besides, I’d think you’d rather see Zobrist platoon with the bullpen catcher.
Vogt early, Vogt often.
Superstar isn't allowing a run tonight

Does anyone know when they announce the TV schedule for the year?
Closing in on two weeks and no word yet
National broadcast schedule is mostly out.

SRQ is right
but on the Rays season preview they said they would have over 100 games in HD this year!

wait but what about the games with postgame concerts
I thought b/c they started at 6 they couldn’t be televised
According to an article from the Bradenton Herald...
“The cable network will carry 150 regular season games between its two stations — FSNFL and Sun Sports. Add the four Sunday games that will be carried on ESPN and the five Saturday games that will be aired on FOX, and Rays fans have a chance to watch 159 of 162 regular season games.”

What about the MLB network games?
Are those just broadcast to those not in the local markets. Kind of like ESPN’s weeknight games
can't find anything on that...
But that makes the most sense, MLB would not want to undercut its clubs and their broadcasters. Too bad though Joe Magrane is doing one of the Rays games for MLBN.

Sonny's damn awful, we should have traded him instead of Edwin.

not too bad sonny..
one unearned run on an infield hit, and holding the Tigers to one run with the bases loaded and less than two outs in the third, but he did hit a batter.

OKK, Updated stuff
Sonnanstine went 4 1/3 innings allowing two homers, 7 hits, 4 runs, and 3 Earned runs, but he struck out 4 (Good Job Sonny). Our favorite Lance Cormier went 2.2 innings giving up 4 hits, 0 earned runs. Percy fell back to earth and allowed 2 runs, two walks, and one hit in one inning work!!

sounds typical
Sonny gets shelled, but Ks 4 in 4 innings and walks none so it is viewed as a SABR success
You sir are an idiot.
The two homers completely undermines “SABR success.” His FIP would still be over 8 for the outting. This is worse than the 6.23 ERA that he had in the game. Get a clue.
few notes from the game
Sonnanstine’s curve was wicked. Fooled everyone. His velocity was down a little bit and I’m pretty sure that is where the home run’s came from. The nobody crushed the ball off him, HRs were about a foot over the wall.
Matt Joyce didn’t really have any opportunities to show his talent in CF. Watching him throw makes me miss Upton already. Guy has a bit of a noodle arm. Somehow I like Zobrist out here more.
Kennedy’s utility roll must be limited to the infield. Guy looked bored and not sure what he was doing in left. Missed two cutoff men and through to the left of second at one point. Fortunately Pena was covering.
