So what does this mean for the bullpen?
With Niemann not getting the 5th spot, the last bullpen spot comes down to him, Izzy, or Cormier. Izzy will more likely than not refuse a minor league assignment, so if he doesn’t make the team, he’s as good as gone. That said, his current performance hasn’t equaled that of the other two. So does Joe get with the potential of Niemann or Cormier, who’s had a terrific spring?
Niemann is either making the team or getting traded.
And it’s not Maddon’s decision. He’s not in charge of personnel.
Tools Whore
Izzy can refuse assignment all he wants.
Teams that look over the last three years aren’t going to give him a guaranteed gig.
